    Hey Robin! Thanks for writing to me! :) I did love "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" and I am in awe of Junot Diaz both as a fellow Dominican and author. That Pulitzer was very, very well deserved!!!! I waited in line for almost 2 hours to have him sign my book in Miami and I told him how proud I was of him.

    As for the footnotes - I think they were absolutely necessary. Few people know the history of the Dominican Republic (let alone where it is, geographically :) ) and it was a cool way for Junior, the narrator, to offer some perspective about our dictator, Trujillo, Balaguer and other important moments of Latin American and Dominican history. But, I hear you. :)

    Of course I would love to keep in touch- I'll start following you and feel free to do the same! I'll check out your books, too! :)

    It's hard for me to read these days because I'm always writing LOL So, I just wanted to let you know that my fourth novel is out... not yet at Amazon; but you can get it at LULU via this link: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/baked-off/15545564 It's called, BAKED-OFF and it's PARENTAL ADVISORY, as usual.

    Basically, it's about what happens if anyone ever dared let me loose in a baking contest. ALL HELL BAKES LOOSE.

    You might find it particularly interesting because the main characters have recipes, blogs, playlists, twitter accounts and email addresses that you interact with. BAKED-OFF is my first attempt at cross-media fiction. I don't know what the hell possessed me to indulge -- but I just HAD to try!

    As soon as it posts to Amazon, I'll profile it on Shelfari, as well.

    Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sometimes I wonder how much of my like for the original film was from a lack of expectations about the actors. We'll see, though!

    I have watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, actually! And the second one. (Thank goodness for Netflix.) I thought they were fabulous; the casting was so dead-on, and all the more useless or confusing bits of the book had been cut out, leaving a really good story.
