Lysistrata

I am a stay-at-home mother of a preschool-aged daughter, and the administrator of a local mom's website. I love reading and wish I had more time to do so. I started a book club through my mother's group in 2005 and I have found that to be very rewarding. I tend to get stuck in my genre of choice which is British crime fiction, but will read...more »

Hi, we haven't been in contact for awhile but I decided to check up on a few friends and see what is new.
Funny, I was just going to suggest the curious incident to you! While it sounds like a crime book it is equally if not more a book written from the perspective of the "hero", a 15 year old autistic boy. Very, very good. I was also going to comment on one of your wish books--Staggering Work of Genius. I loved this book too but it's very different and the first few chapters are sad but overall I found it quirky and memorable.
Also noticed you loved The Historian. I almost bought it tonight so now I'll have to go ahead and give it a shot. Was glad to see your review.

Well, this is one British crime drama that you have got to read: "The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night-time" by Mark Haddan. I don't like crime stories per se, but this one was sooo good. I understand why it was voted one of the best books last year (2006). let me know when you are done. You are going to love me.

Hi Lysisstrata - you have a very unusual name but beautiful! I am Retno, I live in Jakarta Indonesia and working mom of two kids, a son aged 13 and daughter aged 11. I read whenever I have the chance, like when I commute to my office which takes about one hour and half. Noticed that On beauty by Zadie Smith was on your list. anyway I think Zadie focuses too much on biracial issues. have you ever read books by John le Carre ? Seriously cloak and dagger but well-written so that it's exciting. What is a good British crime author - I love British writers such as Graham Greene because his books are very good and each has its own characteristic.
