So glad you can get a new job. Just the fact that you want to be proud of what you do even if its cleaning is a sign of a good worker, you'll do well :)

hey, haven't had a chance to get on as much lately either..also working my butt off. People have taken longservice leave so catching extra hours..being casual i'll take it where i can get it. Giving up my everyother weekend has ruined my social life but its double pay so cant know it back. $9 an hours, with the exchange that would be about $12-13 here not even minimum wage what on earth are you doing for that piddly amount.
I have that gena showalter book...have 3 darkest ones but havent had a chance to read them yet. I'm reading Hunters Moon by Lori Handeland, if you havent read her you should give her a try. I'm on the service desk sneaking on so better earn my pay..see ya

I think it could have been a LOT shorter than it was. I'm not sure how I would have trimmed the novel down, but it definitely needed it. I think it is worth finishing, I mean, you have invested all this time in it already, you know? Finish it and move right along to the next, greater read. That's what I think.

I don't want to say anything too specific until you finish it, but when you do, I for sure have things to say. :-D (P.S.- if you wondering what the daughter's name is, we finally figure it out in the last 60 pages or so. Lame.)

I wonder how many books I own! So many are packed up in boxes still from when we moved to UT from IL. I bet that most of the books I have are kids' books: Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley, Apple Scholastic books, etc. Do those counts as books anymore even? LOL.

I definitely prefer owning my books too. I try to be more selective now, but I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. When I started making my own money, I spent it mostly on makeup, books, and clothes, only sometimes on actually feeding myself. I lived in dorms in college, and my parents paid for that, and I have never owned a car. Don't really need one in UT, but would be nice to have one some day. My hubby has one, and it's a stick shift, and I don't drive stick.

We are trying to reduce all our debt as much as we can, so are making cuts. We aren't going to eat out as much anymore, and are going to give up certain things, like Zac is going to be more selective about which video games he buys and I am going to get accustomed to using the library more. Especially for book club books, when sometimes, for at least one of the groups, it's really hit or miss. That way I can get the books I really want, like Kim Harrison in hardcover. :-) Which means I need to stay away from the bargain books at Barnes and Noble and Borders because I ALWAYS find something I want there. Always.

I do love a good bargain for books, and 25 cents is perfect. Even if you don't end up liking the book, 25 cents isn't too much to get sad over parting with. I'm just not really into romance novels so much, but do realize that romance is a large part of the stories in which I read.

Good luck on replacing your books. :-( I would be devastated if I lost most of my collection. I have a few signed books by Laurell K. Hamilton that I waited HOURS in line to get, and if anything happened to those...*shakes head* But all books are precious, even the ones that I didn't love all that much. I still have a hard time parting with my books. I have given a few away, but only if I really didn't care about them. And hopefully I found them a nice, new home. I can't bear to think of them sitting on a used bookstore's shelf. That makes me sad. So at least my friend might like them. Who knows? I'm not even sure if she read them yet.

I am hopelessly in love with books, too! Also, I finished The Historian today. :-P I had to really force myself to finish it. I hope you have an easier time than I did. Let me know when you finish it!

Do you like going to the library, or do you mostly like to own your books? I prefer owning my books, and reading has always been something that both of my parents encouraged. I did go through a period recently where I was frequenting the library, but then if I liked the book, I ended up buying it. Most of my "for fun" money ends up going toward my book addiction. I got lots of books for my birthday and Christmas so I am set for years' worth of reading, I bet.

Romance books are pretty inexpensive. I have my fair share of them, but so many other books of more interesting writing styles also contain romance, so I get enough of a dose of it from those.

I hope that you and your family have fared well since the hurricane. It was pretty horrifying to follow it in the news and think about how much people had lost from it. There were quite a few news pieces on families who had relocated to UT after the events. Other than you, I don't know anyone else in New Orleans.

The last few days I've been reading "Wicked" again. I went out and had some drinks tonight with friends and don't know if I'll be doing any reading tonight! Possibly after the baby goes to bed, but she's having too much fun playing right now even though it's 1. Sadly I am kind of tired and am wishing I were tucked under the covers. It's been a long day!!

At least we don't have too much left to read. :-D That is the good thing, right? I look forward to being finished with it and discussing it. Maybe we have some other books in common that we want to read that we can do next. I'm not much for romance novels, but I like a lot of paranormal fiction type things and have some random fiction books that could be good that I haven't read yet.

Merry Christmas! I hope you had a good one. I just wanted to let you know where I am in The Historian now. I haven't gotten to much further. I just got over a part that was boring me and am now on chapter 61.

In 1983 a friend and I spent 5 weeks in the US travelling coast to coast from Florida to NYC to Washington DC, Wisconsin (previously student exchange family live there) Memphis, Las Vegas, San Diego and LA. A lot cheaper and safer back then.

I actually haven't skimmed anything; I never do, but if I sense that I'm not absorbing what I'm reading, I'll put it down and switch to something else that might hold my attention a little bit better.
