oye............... hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii :D
I miss you!
I've had two interviews at OSU Medical Center which went well. The hospital is now waiting on my references. Hopefully, I'll be hired on soon. I understand about the going offline. While power outages are rare here, they don't seem so rare on my block! And temperamental computers are a problem everywhere!
I've been tagging more books and happily found many Indian books on the 1001 Books You Must Read list. Many other cultures are represented as well. Take a look at the new tags if you get the time!
About India, I couldn't agree more! From everything I've seen and heard, it's definitely a great place to visit. I fear my adventurous friend will be very very homesick if he's sent to the USA. We went out for Indian food Friday night. It was SO good! They made dal differently than the restaurant we usually go to. I liked it, but prefer the other. The sweet lassi hit the spot! You know I love most things Indian. We've had a rather busy weekend. Saturday went to a party put on by Mychaelyn's employer. Then went out for drinks with friends at a gay bar. Today we shopped and went out for Mexican food and I read a bit. We're watching Quantum Leap season 5, just released on DVD. So, what's up with you? Any more adventures with friends?
I just finished a great book called Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. Remember the book I read about the Chinese girl, Peony by Pearl S. Buck? Although they are set in different centuries, I get started on a topic and it just makes me want another helping. Now I'm beginning another book by Buck titled Imperial Woman and one of Balzac's own books, Eugenie Grandet. Little Chinese Seamstress is about (among other things) books! Classic works by Balzac and others. I had never heard of Balzac and I'm eager to enhance my knowledge. Cheaper by the Dozen is one of my favorites! A laugh-out-loud biography/memior I'll never forget! Let me know when you're finished and we'll discuss it. Oh, I almost forgot... I was hasty in the bookstore today and accidentally bought two different translations of the same book! lol So, if you think you'd like Pere Goriot by Honore de Balzac, email me your address and I'll send you one of them. More later...
I'm online. r u?
Congratulations on your excellent scores! All your hard work has paid off! The sand dunes sound fun. I used to visit the sand hills in New Mexico with friends and relatives. I especially enjoyed jumping from the top and landing, completely unharmed, some fifteen or twenty feet below. Sorry I haven't sent those pics yet. Those who could help me are either at work or asleep, as usual... Have you found another interesting book to take the place of the boring one you were suffering through? All of mine that I'm currently reading are very good. One, The Scarlet Letter requires my concentration, so can't read it just anywhere. Got your message a couple of days ago but hadn't had time to answer, as I'm back to work. Tonight I was sipping my chai and of course, I thought of you! lol I would love to meet you some day, here in the USA, but I fear I will never get to see your breathtakingly beautiful country, unless Mychaelyn can be persuaded. She has a great fear of traveling in countries which SHE does not consider industrialized nations. I assure her of the relative safety of India, but her fears do not go away. I would very much like to visit my friend Anuj, who I've known since about July of 2005. But we run into this same discussion again and again. Do you think you may work in the US? You would love our libraries! And the bookstores let you sit and read while you sip coffee or tea or even eat soup or sandwiches in their little coffee shops! I think of all the many advantages I have, I take books for granted more than any other. Well, enough about me... Let me know what you've found to read!
doing fine thanks! hope 2008 is a good year.
About my tags and comments: I use my own tags and hope others might also find them helpful. When I see the word "opinion" I take it literally. I feel free to give my own subjective feelings about a book or other topic. What I strive for is to hit three things: what I liked, what I didn't and relevant facts which might be of some interest to someone else. For example, I might warn others that a book contains something that some people might find disturbing. I'm really enjoying adding to my wish list shelf. It will be nice to be able to click on a tag to find a specific genre when I'm looking for a new book to read! Right now I'm craving thrillers. Hope to talk to you again sometime!
I hope your trip with friends is safe and you carry home fond memories! I like to have get-togethers with friends too. It's called "work." lol j/k This morning I went to breakfast with three of my former coworkers from Laureate (psych hospital). We try to stay in touch, although I "deserted" them. They're a wild bunch!
New Year's Eve was great! Spent it at the in-laws' having "Christmas." Aunt Lin is a wonderful cook. It was wonderful just to get together! I really love my in-laws like my own family.
Will miss u while ur at college and studying, but i remember how time-consuming my college was, so i understand. will try to send u pics with a little help from the fam. not so good at attaching stuff. about my wish list...i'm trying to get all of the 1001 books tbr before i die on this list. i also hope to get them all tagged eventually to make it easier to select a specific genre. i'm also adding other interesting books as i run across them, but will try to separate them onto the reading queue. Happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you!
Will look for To Sir With Love and Hiroshima next time I visit Gardner's. I think u will enjoy Lord of the Flies. If u haven't already read it by the time I finish it, I'll send it to you, (hopefully all three). It might take me a little while to finish it. You're right, I'm pretty insatiable when it comes to reading. And variety is critical!
Thought of you today as I went browsing through books. Bought three books: Saint Joan by Bernard Shaw, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Hope you're having a great weekend! I'm planning to bake and read and rest this weekend. Perhaps we'll chat again soon. Namaste!

r u online?
yes, it seems we're playing tag. that's a fine career you've chosen. but, oh! so much math! yes, To Sir With Love is a favorite! It was very moving...because we have all been students, struggled with something, felt discouraged. Then I find myself identifying with the teacher and how HE struggles and faces discouragement, too! They made a movie of the book, but read the book first. Both are excellent. The movie features one of my favorite actors, Sidney Portier (I hope I spelled it right). It sounds French and I definitely don't parley-voo any Fran-say! Anyway, I live in a suburb called Jenks. It's just across the river from a medium-sized city called Tulsa. That's in Oklahoma, which is kinda in the middle of the United States. I have too much time to read right now, because I've been resting. Not that I mind reading! But I sure miss my work! Hopefully we'll be online at the same time some day... we might have to set a date, lol! I speak a little this, a little that, but I'm fluent only in English. I can't imagine reading a whole (adult) book in another language. When I was a teen, I used to read Spanish picture books to the two small Mexican children we lived next door to. I gave them lots of laughs! Is To Sir with Love widely available there? Our public library system here is incredible. It's been YEARS since I've wanted to read a book I couldn't get. Oh, I may have to wait for one, but I can borrow virtually any book I need. Benjamin Franklin had a great idea when he set up public libraries. Well, I've rambled enough...hope to hear from you soon!
