The action in this book was great; it kept me reading and I couldn't put it down. It was awesome reading the battle scenes with the brutal carnage and the "whatever it takes" spirit the human resistance had was inspiring.
However, my biggest complaint--that ruined the book for me--came at the end. The author revealed, at the end, that a few of the "mysterious" human resistance fighters in eastern Europe were actually vampires. They ended up making vampires of some of the soliders that were dying in the book's last battle. Then those soldiers ended up capturing an alien escape vessel, hijacked the cruisers, destoryed them and went to to alien homeward to destory them for what they did to Earth. That makes no sense to me. I know you're thinking "it's a sci-fi book, dummy," but still, vampires? I hated it. It didn't go with the flow of the book or make any sense. It came across as the author trying to figure out how to wrap this book up neatly and vampires were picked because they are what are "hot" now. I was left very unsatisfied. I would have given this books a 5/5, but the end was just terrible.”
