It's about why democracy works in some situations and why it doesn't it others. He talks about the difference between liberal and illiberal democracies. I thought that the book was pretty interesting. Zakaria basically goes through a bunch of topics, centering on the idea that too much democratization (when its applied too fast or haphazardly) can be disastrous.
Diary was actually really freaking incredible! After that, I read 3 more books by Palahniuk but didn't care for them as much. Diary was so much better than I expected...there were passages in it that I found so beautiful and poignant that I actually found myself going back and underlining them! I very rarely do that with books.
