I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio and ended up in North Carolina by way of Syracuse, NY. What I wanted to do was work in theater - and, oddly enough, I am. This means I should have a day job, which could be anything from waiting tables to office management to engineers depending on who you ask what they do. I’ve become a database geek with... more »

I read this after recently re-reading an earlier novel in the series. The joy of this one is more checking in on characters than the actual individual story. Here, however, the dragons provide an interesting highlight. Overall, I'd toss this in my escapism pile - something fun for a few hours diversion but not necessarily something I feel the need to own on my shelf

If I had this level of not trusting people and messed up relationships, I might be concerned about ever being anywhere near a hand-gun. Some of the minor plotlines were entertaining (such as the SEALs), but overall just a beach read. I might get the others of the TroubleShooters series just so I can have a good beach book next time I'm out in the OBX

Not horrid for a quick and painless diversion...but not good enough for me to want to pick up the rest of the series. ALL the characters were a little two dimensional at best.

Not having been a Sherlock Holmes reader, the continued references to the Hound of the Baskervilles was a little off-putting. But, some of the descriptions of the moors made me see clearly other childhood reads of Secret Garden and Wuthering Heights

Very very slow. After reading some of the other boks, it is hard to remember that this happens in the middle of Beekeepers Apprentice. I almost want to re-read Beekeeper and pause it to reread this one and see if some of the strange little comments make more sense.

It follows fairly quickly on the end of The Game, which was fun, because I knew I had gotten the books out of order at this point. However, this is likely my favorite thus far. The fact that Holmes and Russell work separately for a while was interesting, as we got a different view of events for some of the interesting sequences.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I might. The different setting was interesting and I really enjoyed the descriptions of the settings - especially the treasure room in the palace

A lovely introduction to the series. Great set up of characters and place while allowing for the story to shine through

Not bad for a quick read. I highly suggest reading these in order - I skipped book 2, so the first chapter had my head spinning a bit as I assimilated everything that happened. Overall, a quick read.
Feels a little like she & Stephanie Meyer have had coffee together a few times though

not a bad little trip, for all it took a bit to get started. The premise of an "accidental" vamp fits in with her others like the one who fainted at the sight of blood. Interested in trying to grab the others I haven't read since I've now had two good reads of her series
