It had been a while since I had read any of Lisa Gardner's books. This book was extremely fast paced and riveting. A woman is kidnapped from her car. She is simply gone. Where has she been taken and for what purpose? I couldn't put the book down until I had it finished in one sitting.

I was prepared to dislike this book, however, that notion was quickly dispelled. What's not to like about an alternate reality (1989, London and the Crimean war still rages on...), murder and kidnapping of literary figures (be careful Jane Eyre!), time and book traveling, literatec agents and chronoguards, and a villan who has perfected evil for its own sake?! This is a wild and witty romp as the villans are chased and good triumphs over evil. By the way, don't get upset if you feel confused after reading the first couple of chapters, it will all make sense in time!

I found this book to be an unhappy waste of my reading time. The characters are pathetic. There is nothing funny or humorous about drunks, mentally deficient, and mentally ill individuals trying unsuccessfully to cope with their miserable little lives. I'd like to yank that pompous sick Ignatious's green flapper hat off his head, break his plastic cutlass and throw his tablets into a bonfire, then send him to a psych ward and throw away the key. What a waste of New Orleans for a setting. The book was pitiful, there was nothing funny or humorous about it.

This isn't my usual sort of book, as I prefer thrillers/action/mysteries. However, I truly enjoyed this light read. The characters, including Ave Maria, were all quirky. My only difficulty with this book, was the ending. I saw no need for one of the main characters to lose their mother, just to make the story more tidy. The whole town of Big Stone Gap was untidy and unruly, so why should the ending be so pat?

I have a child with AS, and I also have 10 housecats. My husband and I loved this book, as we see almost all of the book in some form or other every single day. Our child also enjoyed the book. It generated questions which our child asked us about his/her behavior. It is a light hearted and empathetic read, looking into the lives of those with AS and the families who deal with the behavior and thought excentricities every day. Welcome to our world!

This was different from the usual Ken Follet novels I've read. I have to say that it took me 300 pages before I could really get interested in the characters. What fascinated me was the building of the cathedral, and how it was financed during the reigns of Henry I, Stephen, Empress Maud, and Henry II. Actually, I had pictured 11th century life much more grim than described in this novel.

  • Stealing Lincoln's Body
    • Rated 2 stars

I wanted to read this book because, as a child in the 60s, I saw a Look or Life magazine photo essay about the last person to see Lincoln's body. The article was about the reburiel of Lincoln. The topic has since facinated me. I was hoping for a bit more narrative style. I felt like I was reading someone's thesis as it was very dry and to the point. The information was interesting, but it was not an enjoyable read.

This was an enjoyable romp through the desert. Kept me wondering what the search was really about; finding a trex skeleton/mummy or the nano machines which led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. This was a fun, fast entertaining read!
