I heard that the average Millionaire reads one non-fiction book a month, so you may see my efforts in the non-fiction area increase.... what could it hurt, right?

I don't check for messages too often, sorry it's been sitting here awhile. Kristen started me on the Uglies series, though I had it on my list before she read it. I just flew through them. I really liked them, but I kind of like that genre. It was fun because you weren't really sure what would happen because it wasn't predictable. Yesterday I just finished EXTRAS, which is a "companion" book to the others, but to me it seemed more like a 4th in the series. Unfortunately, I make plenty of time to read in the summer...and the spring, and the fall, and the winter...

I rad what you thought of " The Sweet Far Thing", and I feel the same way. I absolutely hated the ending.

You are so welcome! I'm glad the reviews are helpful to others. The only good thing I can say is that if you want to pacify your sister, it is a very quick read. You could really finish it in a day or two. But I guess I just didn't "get" the appeal. It struck me as trite.

It's tough. I mean look at all the people who LOVED The Notebook. A book I thought was total drivel . . .

Thanks for the note. I hope you love Pope Joan, it is one of my all time favorites.
I've fallen a bit behind on reviews, what with Last Tagger Standing and being co-admin there. Keeps me very busy LOL!

    Hi RamSam,
I saw your review of Anthem and had to come over and check out the whole review. I'm an Ayn Rand fan, but have never read that one. Now I really want to. I also have Crimson Petal on my shelf - - it's been there for a few years, and I still haven't read it. Now I really don't want to.

So glad to see you are reading along with us though; you've been quiet so I thought maybe you were taking a break!!

Hope all is well. I NEED to get off Shelfari and do some stuff around the house. My household management skills are pathetic.

Though it took awhile, I did finish Crimson Petal. I liked the second half, but not the first half. It was a 3.5 star book for me, but I rounded up to 4 since we can't do halves on here. It left me with some assumptions that I'm not sure if I'm right about. Maybe I should've rounded down to 3 stars!

Did you like The Woman in White? I've got that sitting next in line. I'm reading The Crimson Petal and the White right now. Almost done with it. I've enjoyed it, but it's taken me awhile to read 'cause it's over 800 pages and I think that overwhelmed me for some reason.

I noticed you just added The Picture of Dorian Gray. The edition I read was really great because it included lots of notes about changes to different editions and back story on Wilde. I think it was the Penguin Classics edition. I think you will enjoy it, although it is a pretty dark and creepy tale.

Thanks for the friend request! It looks like you have a lot of great books on your shelf. I just went to a book sale (school fundraiser) and picked up 5 books that I've had on my wish list--yay!! But, my stack of books to be read just got that much higher... Look forward to hearing from you---Carol

Welcome back Cotter!!! I feel like when we were in 7th grade and one of your best buddies left for a family vacation and you just couldn't breathe properly until they got back. Phew! Your trip sounds incredible, but hardly restful(how the heck did you fit 3 books in the middle of all of that?). The boys must have had a blast! Reading has been slow on my end lately-I'm not reading any page turners right now. Glad you're back and all is well!!!

Ah, the beach! I'm so jealous! We're going in the beginning of June, which isn't soon enough.
Now that you're rested up and ready to buckle down and read, I highly recommend both Certain Girls and People of the Book. Both were two of my faves so far this year. What a journey People of the Book takes you on!

I think I was disappointed with it. I am not sure what I was expecting. I think I was expecting a fairy tale re-make or something like Goose Girl or something. It was interesting, but predictable. It's a fast read, though and non-offensive.

Maybe I liked it better than I thought? If I am remembering the right book there was one thing I DIDN'T expect that was good. I want to know what you think when you read it?

Oh my goodness, you are going to have so much fun...lucky you!!! We usually go every February, but this Feb got away from us. Have ya'll been before? Do you stay at Shades of Green at Disney or somewhere else? You'll be just 7 hours or so from me-crazy. I could almost reach out and touch you. I might go through Ram withdrawals, but I think I'll survive for two weeks. Have fun!
