    Hi,

I was in a group and I saw that you've read Drood. What did you think of it? Recommend it?

    Hi Jen,
I just finished "Hellbound Heart" and I loved it. It was really good; I read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down. After watching "Midnight Meat Train" (and liked it a lot!), I wanted to give Clive Barker another chance. I was young when I first read him and his ideas and imagery went over my head. Now that I'm older, I'm appreciating his writing techniques as well as his ideas. What would you suggest to read next of his?

    Hope you are well.

Thanks so much! My publisher called me at one in the morning to tell me about it and I was thrilled. I'm still waiting for the trophy to arrive in the mail. Can't wait to see it. But you're the first person outside of my publisher who knew about it (which is a thrill in itself). Thanks for dropping me a line. My writing is just a hobby, but it's so cool when it gets noticed.

    Hi Jen,
Don't worry about responding quickly; I totally understand. I'm glad your feeling much better; it sucks being sick. Hopefully, good weather is right around the corner.

I put Dog Soldiers on my queue; I'm upset that I missed it on the SciFi channel today (I just read the posts on Chiller). I checked and they aren't repeating it again. Thanks for the rec on The Descent; I put that one on my queue too. So many films to watch!

I'm still trying to get thru What Dreams May Come. Then I'll start Amityville Horror, The Secret Life of Bees, and Johnny Get Your Gun (in that order). What are you reading at the moment?

Saw Watchmen on Friday; I was so disappointed. I wanted to like this film sooo much and I couldn't. My friend Miguel asked me, "Name one scene you liked in the film. What did you like?" I couldn't think of one thing besides the opening montage. I just received The Magnificent Seven and Flash of Genius from NetFlix. Can't wait to view them.

    Chat with you soon. Ann

    Hi Jen,
I was almost finished typing and then the text disappeared....and now I'm retyping to you. This is twice and it's getting irritating.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. Hopefully, your feeling better. You don't seem to be getting a break between the headaches and actually being sick. Hopefully, with the better weather coming so will your health improve.

Did you actually get a chance to go to the movies? Yeah, I just don't enjoy those films, slasher ones. I do like The Nightmare on Elm Street (one is the best), Halloween (only the first one) and that's it. I absolutely hated Friday the 13th; I couldn't tell enough people to stay away from it. I thought it was a bad trend happening. Yes, it took the urban legend to a different level but I still hated it. I've been reading all the posts on Chiller; there have been some good discussions going on. Anyway, I prefer the psychological, supernatural stories. I'm more of the subtle, less is more, imagination-is-worse person. But for movies like (including war, mafia, storylines that encompass violence) Godfather, Hell Raiser, Kill Bill, No Country for Old Men, and any film that is inherently violent (because of the subject matter), than yes, showing the
violence is essential visually for the storytelling. That, I don't have a problem with. I actually love those films I mentioned. It's when it's overly done that I have a problem with. You could say Tarantino's Kill Bill was too much but that was his homage to the martial arts and grindhouse movies of the '70's. Sorry, I could go on and on.

The Wrestler was great, in my opinion. I rated it 4/5 stars. Mickey Rourke deserves the nomination and I hope he wins. I won't say who I think will win until I see all the 5 nominated films. I'll be viewing all of them on 2/21 at the AMC Oscar Showcase. I've been doing this for the last 3 years. I have so much fun.

Try reading Patricia Cornwell. I love her Scarpetta novels. I also love James Patterson's, Alex Cross's books. And Kathy Reich's books (before Bones was ever a show). It's the other genre that I like reading.

Well, have to get ready for my cousin's 3rd birthday. He's having a Mickey Mouse theme. I love my cake and ice-cream. Happy Valentine's Day. I'm already digging into my chocolate stash the children gave me at school!

    Hi Jen,
I'm almost done with Kali- 100 pages left. I had to put it aside to do homework and start on my analysis paper. I should be done by this weekend; so far I would definitely recommend it. I just downloaded three ebooks: Coraline by Neil Gaiman, Wicked by Gregory Maguire, and Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. I love my ebook. It's so handy and it'll be handy when it comes to traveling. I can have 500 books on this one device. Technology is amazing!

I haven't seen any of the new episodes of Supernatural either. I'm waiting when I'm not so busy. The con is right around the corner....I can't wait to see Jared and Jensen! I think it's funny that both of them are in 2 horror re-makes (My Bloody Valentine 3-D & Friday the 13th); have you seen them. I have no interest even though I love those guys. The 3-D one might be fun. Jensen was promoting the movie on Chelsea Lately on the E channel; he was getting embarrassed. It was cute.

Saw a couple of movies (trying to see all the Oscar nominated films): The Wrestler, Defiance, Pursuit of Happyness, Days of Heaven, C'etalt un Rendezvous and re-watched 3- The Godfather, T-Men and Citizen Kane. Just got back from the library and rented "I Am Cuba" and "The Cranes are Flying". Also bought Patricia Cornwell's "Potter's Field" for .50 cents. I love her Kay Scarpetta novels.

What have you been up to? Take care and chat with you later.

    Hi Jen,
Thanks for the greetings for Jacob. His birthday parties were a hit; he had lots of fun. I just can't believe he's 6 now.
I finally finished The Shack over the weekend. I liked it a lot. Main idea in the book - forgiveness, for yourself and others, in the face of great tradegy. And of course, the religious/spirtual aspect. I'm now reading The Song of Kali. I can't put it down. After I answer all my emails, I'm going to read some more :) Our next book club read is What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson. We are also going to view the movie and we are going to compare the two for the discussion next month.

Just got home from class. We viewed The Godfather tonight. I just love that film; very rich and great story-telling.

Have you been keeping up with Supernatural? I've taped them, so this weekend I will be watching them. Can't wait. Can't wait for the con too! Have a good evening.

    Hi Jen,
I will have to put "Burn After Reading" on my ever-growing queue on NetFlix. I saw "Mirrors" and it was good; let's just say I enjoyed it more so than Unborn. I'm coming to find out that there are lots and lots of remakes. Yes, that would be the smart thing to do (make available the original before putting out the remake) but some companies don't have common sense (or the right marketing people).

This weekend is my nephew's 6th birthday and Sunday is my book club meeting.

Off to try and finish The Shack. So far, so good. Good night. Ann

    Hi Jen,
Rascal is cute; very photogenic! I don't blame you for putting his picture up instead (your's was also nice).

I'm really enjoying reading the threads on Chiller; all of sudden all these people are coming out of the woodwork and responding to the posts. It's nice to see this change. Hopefully, the movie Nightwatch will garner a lot of interest. I thought the movie was on Instant Play on Netflix but I was wrong. I'll have to wait for it to come in the mail. I need to re-watch Citizen Kane and watch a few others (Miracle on 34th St- remake and original; Young at Heart; The T-Men and An American in Paris). With the exception of Miracle, they are for my film class. Oh and The Godfather.

No, I haven't seen Burn After Reading. How was it? I'm off to my film club. Will let you know what I watched and who came to do the Q & A. Take care and talk to you soon.

    Having a good Sunday?

    Hi Jen,
Just got home from my film class and we watched Citizen Kane tonight. I enjoyed the film for all it's technical details but the story and characterizations were weak in my opinion. The movie is so stylized that everything else becomes secondary (at least in my opinion) or lost.

Hey, I noticed there's been some great responses on The Chiller thread; there right you know - quality vs quantity. I've never even heard of some of those authors. I guess I would consider myself liking psychological and very tame supernatural stories. Blood and guts aren't my style (neither is splatterpunk or is that the vey definition of it). I'm going to try to watch Midnight Meat Train again. Everyone is raving about it.

    Talk to you later. Ann
