The Super Bowl is the one game that decides which football team was the best and outstanding team of the year. Our football games (not soccer, but American football) has games from the end of Aug to the beginning of Jan, normally. Then they have "play-offs" which narrows the games to the two best teams that then pay in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is so widely popular that the commercials that broadcast cost millions per 30 seconds. And the commercials are said to be the best broadcast on American TV, but I don't agree with that statement , but apparently millions of people around the world do. This Super Bowl is also broadcast into many other countries. It's just a HUGE event. When the Super Bowl ends, there is no football by the NFL (National Football League) till August. There are so many parties for this event. The game always starts just after 6PM here. It used to be that all events started about 30 min prior, then 1 hour before. It's now up to pre-game broadcasting of information (entertaining and some just boring) starting about 9AM PLUS there is many programs of pre-game info during the week prior to the game. It's just a HUGE American event. Even if you don't like football, you will most likely go to a party! WHEW....this should give you an idea of the event!

We've had 2 more snow coverings since I last wrote. Everything is white and beautiful for awhile then POOF, it's gone. guess that's a "good" snow as we get the beauty then no shoveling, cleaning off the cars, etc.

Hubby was home sick yesterday (better today so went back to work) and I have this thing about only cleaning when the house is empty, except for dishes or any immediate messes that pop up. After making a few calls I had to etc, I sat down at the breakfast bar with a large mug of hot tea and read all afternoon. I think I needed that. Then towards the end I had an idea pop into my mind about a bracelet I had wanted to make so I made note on that and after 'Richard went to bed I started working on that. Today....I MUST clean the house! It's either that or open the windows and shove everything out! I'm reading Tess Gerritsen's first books.

Oh, I have 4 cats right now. We had 7 at one time then my daughter took one to college and manage to hide her the entire time at college, then one was literally tearing our home up by peeing everywhere to the point the other cats started doing so. We found a phenomenal home for him about 90 min from us and SHE shows him. He has never peed on her floors, etc. But he's now the 7th (or 9th, I can't remember) best American Domestic cat in the nation. Who would have figured that would happen. So then we had 5 for a very long time....then my baby does last summer from lung cancer. That was one of the worst days of my life as he was a VERY special cat. We got him as a tiny kitty and he was feral, VERY feral. I had to use double leather gloves just to clean the litter box and put in fresh food and water. He was crated for good reasons. But I worked with him several times a day. Finally he no longer attacked me, blah blah blah till he finally let me pick him up, walk with him etc. That took 9 years of working every day to reach that point. He passed when he was 11. I still cry when I think of him!!! So just the 4 now and we will never have more than 2 cats again. Am getting older and we just don't need that many cats and I'm always cleaning up from them. So 2 is just fine!

OK, am headed to get a few things done here.

Hope your having a great week!

    Rachel,

Once again it snowed, twice I think. But not much and the sin would come out and melt it. So it was like a beautiful canvas wiped clean. Then again, I hate when snow sticks around and become black from the environment. We are expecting more tonight and again tomorrow night. Nothing hugely significant!
I admire your goals, outlook on life and your determination to make sure all the about happen. I pray and hope you'll be able to follow this dream. Making a difference is what it's all about!

Quiet weekend here to be ended with the Super Bowl. LOVE IT! Was a GREAT game this year and the lights went out in the Super Dome so the game was the longest ever (was 35 min to get the lights back on). The game after the light issue took on a different type of game so was very exciting.

It's Monday. I have a Beading Society meeting on Thursday (monthly) so am preparing for that! I have lots to "show off". I've never had anything to show before so this is exciting. I made a new type of bracelet last night. IT ROCKS! The pattern called for various shades of turquoise but I used pearls and beads....and WOW, how beautiful it is, if I ma say so myself! It's probably the hardest bracelet I've ever made too.

Cats have been very loving of late, more so than normal, especially Tom, my favorite. He and I have a special bond....and he thinks he's a dog! He's so funny! I generally have to lug him around when I'm home as he can't stand not to be right on top of me!

Well, it's Monday morning and I need to be back to the weekly routine. I woke VERY late, much later than normal for me (3 hours later) so am so far behind already! I hope you have a GRAND week filled with laughter, fun and mostly love!

    Rachael,

That is a fantastic opportunity! I admire you for your deep rooted desire to help those less fortunate! Can I ask why Borneo? Is it the beaches and serene water calling? Just kidding, but am interested in all the places of the world you chose Borneo. There is a connection there? Will you go on your own or with a group?

A friend I have here went to Africa last year to a preserve or something, can't remember the name at the moment. She paid them to care for the animals (she chose to go to the large cat only). She loved it. Apparently that group had a great time and all got along together, not knowing each other at all before this. Now they go annually and another trip in between. She's in her mid-60's but probably in better shape than myself!

I've been overseas, more so when I was younger, but never to assist others, but I do that here...or have. Much be just awesome to travel far from home to do this. What a great experience to come! HIP HIP HOORAH for you!

    Weekend coming, ENJOY!
    Catherine

(I'll be making three bracelets then having friends over Sunday for the HUGE football event here in the US.....to determine the best of the teams here...it's called the Super Bowl. Personally, I LOVE the commercials. They are awesome during this time.)

It's fall weather here today but no wind. And as they say, enjoy it while it's here as later today will be torrential rains leading to flash floods. then Friday more snow and again on Monday, more snow. I don't work so I don't have to go out and if we need groceries, they'll deliver that. So I'm happy!

On Monday I took this showcase box (given to me by a friend for something to use for packaging my jewelry, but works SUPER as a showcase.) Anyway, I put 2 really nice pearl bracelet and then about 5 pairs of earrings in there. Went to the doctors office (I had an app't) and told the ladies in the office I just had to brag and showed them the pieces. I sold a bracelet and a pair of earrings (I take orders so it can be personalized with their colors and their exact size.) Then I went across the street to a doctor I use, only her office is in the back of a lawyer's office and sold more and again the most expensive pearl bracelet AND earrings and then yesterday she wanted 2 more bracelets. WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO I'm excited about that.

Today no jewelry, just catching up on house cleaning [frown], wash and making important phone calls that I've put off for a week, hmmmmm more like 2 weeks. OOPS!

Hope all is well with you!

AT this point, since it hasn't really snowed here like it used to, I'll take what little bit of snow I can get. It covered everything and that is what I love, a blanket of snow. We only got just over 82.55 mm, but like I said EVERYTHING was white! The sun came out bright yesterday and today....nice. Now it will melt it away and no brown/black snow.....no dirt. I find that disgusting! LOL

I made the most magnificent bracelet last night out of Swarovski pearls and crystals. I used a rhinestone button from a silk blouse I saved when the blouse got ruined so that "clasp" I made really finished the bracelet off nicely! I'm thinking about making another today in a different colourway. I got so excited about this bracelet I didn't read a single word, but that's okay. I can't do it all at once!

Hope we get at least one more snow and at least twice as much [smile] The people here would shot me if they knew I was hoping for this....they want it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer....HA!

    Rachel,
Snow? I would LOVE to have a nice snow. they are always ready here for any depth of woe. It's an ordinance here that all roads have to be cleared within 4 hours. They normally get that done here in 2 hours and then continually come back to keep clearing the snow pretty regularly till it's done snowing. So we really never get snowed in. We haven't really had a "real" snow fall for a few years now....let's see, we bought a new snow blower about 6 years ago and have NEVER used it. I'm selling it now as now hubby has a heart problem so we'll have to hire someone to do our sidewalks and driveway. I love a deep snow though....the feeling of staying home yet running outside to play in the snow. And I agree, snow at Christmas is really nice. We had a light dusting of snow Christmas Eve here.

I have to admit that making jewelry has been my favorite things to do (I've done knitting, crochet, quilting, on my, the list goes on and on and on....which the last was scrapbooking) but this one is different. I don't get discouraged.....I just enjoy it. And the best part there is always a different medium to learn. Am taking classes right now on chainmaille....you make a bracket or necklace but you make every ring and place them just so for a pattern. challenging. My favorite so far is weaving crystals. I make a super nice bracelet called the Russian Spiral our of Swarovski crystals and it was awesome.

I have TONS of books. I recently boxed up quite a few (and I have a list of what books are in each box) and pt them in the attic to free that bookshelf up and get rid of it. I presently have about 25 books on my shelf to read. the rest are upstairs and yes, I generally pass the books on when done. I always find new homes for them....I like to share the joy of reading!

I got my bike for Mother's Day this past year. when I was looking for one a bike shop had me ride each model bike to see which most fit my needs. The first 10 times or so I was wobbly and when I went to stop I'd drag my feet out of fear, but that eventually goes away and you feel comfortable riding again. I'm Mrs Safety....I have those bright flashing lights in the back AND front of the bike, of course a good helmet, a horn, a bright colored bike, a bracelet that tells my med and name in case I wreck and they need info to treat me, and more (OK, stop laughing at me......but I really do have this and more!!!) My neighbors say I'm a good role model for their kids on bike safely....the kids think I'm just old! It had been over 25 years since I rode a bike last. A lot happens in that time...my baby grew up!!

I'm reading another older Tess Gerritsen book right now and have also started a workbook on achieving life goals and then a "medical" book. I don't know how I'm keeping up with these 3 as I generally get confused if I read more than one book at a time....LOL!

    Keep warm!!!

    Rachael,

OVER 2 years! Wow, how time flies!!! I do know that about a year ago I took a class on making jewelry. Well, I got hooked and LOVE IT! That cut into my reading time but when the new year started I leave my studio at least an hour before going to bed and back to reading. What a life: gardening (in the sprint/summer), riding bikes, making jewelry and reading! LOL With the jewelry I keep learning something new or a different technic almost each week. Love it. My GF tried to get me involved with this about 1999 and I had no interest. This is something that really makes me mellow. Hubby says I come out of the studio a different woman, really relaxed and it shows. I am reading one of Tess Gerritsen's first books. It's a thrilled/mystery and pretty much each chapter is a new character that will fall into place with them all, soon I think. Her old is as good as her Rizzoli and Isles series. Then I have 2 "science real life" sorta books I want to read...then back to the real stiff once again, LOL As a matter of fact today is my "day off" (I don't work except for this house, daily...and once in a while I give myself the day off: no dishes, no cleaning, no repairing, no laundry, you get the picture! And I need those days. Well, that's today. AM about to go in there and read a bit....then maybe take a nap!

I highly recommend "let me go" IF you can stand to real about those horrible places they killed the Jews without thinking about them being humans. For me, it's hard to accept that people can live with themselves!

Cat's in my lap keeping me warm....even thought it's a cold overcast day. The nice days were good while they lasted. I can enjoy a cold day as long as that wind isn't blowing./ If it's windy and cold, keep me at home! I thought CA was warm.....but I've never been there. I did go to the Pacific Northwest for an extended vacation with my daughter in 2008. WOW, made me want to retire there with my hubby! LOVED IT!

Yes, we should write more often. Funny we weren't writing, but I always looked to see what you are reading and what you had to say about those you read!

It has been a very long time now. We';re good here....so far a warm winter but was originally forcasted to be a cold winter with a lot of snow. I could use a good now now. Can't get out so can read much more!

How about your corner of the world?? How's it going? Can you recommend any books of late that you've read? I've been reading more history type books than I have ever before....guess that's age.getting older! LOL I've read a lot of novels also, bt the last one I read that was truly a 5 star was "let me go". WOW, very powerful book! It's written by the daughter of of a Nazy SS Guard. She makes a lst visit to her Mother to ask WHY she would abondon her Father and brother and herself to work at a concentration camp. Less than 200 pages but the poswer of a 500 page turner!

Other than that and I'm still on this side of the grass, so all is REALLY well! Thanks for the shout!

I bought the book....that's the first step. I am reading a book, that is good, the way it's written is very difficult to read so I am taking awhile to get it read. I very seldom ever give up on a book and refuse to give in...I WILL finish this book! It's called Homer's Odyssey...have you ever heard of it? It's about a blind cat...and actually very funny and has some life lessons in it too. Please don't give up on me....and I really appreciate you checking in on me. My goal is to have it done by the 31st. So after this I will really appreciate a good book, one that is much easier to read. Have you ever read a book that was good but the style held you back? What are you reading right now? Anything good? I'll be back to you VERY soon!!! Thanks again, Catherine D
