Sorry folks, I've had to cut down on the number of groups I'm in.

Please note that I'm too lazy to go back through and note whether I've read, I'm in the middle of, or I've not yet read, etc. my books. I think they are all noted as having been read. That is correct for about 95% of the books. The rest of them are in the "in midst of"...more »

LOL! It's great being a "girl", but certainly one of the challenges we face with men is their fascination with the superficial and the "unusual".

Have your reading preferences changed over the years? I used to love Sci-Fi, but as I get older, I'm enjoying paranormals (in other words, I don't suppose I've changed much). The common thread here is reading for entertainment and escape :)

Whenever I finish writing my next novel (some time after I finally finish my dissertation), I'll do that search and try to schedule some signings in your area! I'm not really sure how the connection between LA and Houston came about, either, but I'd bet it started with families migrating there from LA to find better jobs. Over the generations, other family members and friends had a reference point in Houston to make relocation there easier (family and friends to stay with and help them get acclimated).
My family is like that - most of them migrated to NY three or four generations ago, leaving very few of us in the south. Over the generations, others eventually moved to NY, staying with relatives already there for a short period of time (long enough to get acclimated, settled), meeting someone, marrying, and of course giving birth to natives of NY who would never dream of living anywhere else. I visited NY as a child, but never cared for it - too impersonal :)
What must it have been like for your parents as the first Indonesian/Chinese people in KY? Cultures and relationships are important to me. What do you remember about growing up there?

Are you a Houston native or a transplant? I'm still on the Gulf Coast right now, but have several friends who moved to Houston after Katrina. I've heard it's a good atmosphere for writers...

    Hi there!
It would have been infinitely better to post directly to you, but I still get confused about where I should post. I suppose I'll just leave it where it is this time if you don't mind :)

    Hi Racethom,
That's a good idea! I'll try it. I haven't started a new discussion topic here before, so bear with me...

Interesting picture. Oh by the way, before I forget and I know it is early Happy B-day!! I will try to be on the ball next week but no telling how spacey I'll be then. I seem to have fumble fingers while I type and drop consonants all the time. :D

Well, I enjoyed The Mocking Program, but I can see where it would be difficult to get into for other people. I've been training in Spanish for years and without that knowledge most of the book would have been incomprehensible for me. I'm not a fan of Foster's but I really like the Intuit aspect of the book and found the characters to be well-rounded and interesting. Sometimes I think its best to put a book your not into aside until you actually want to read it. Try picking it up at the library and giving it another try, but I suggest you don't force yourself to read it.
