Welcome to the group based on the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. There is a general explanation of the group under the discussion thread Group guidelines. The books of the month (BOTM) that the group is reading are pinned to the top. I hope you will enjoy the group and perhaps join in one or more of the monthly reads. Our March books have been chosen and they are #1 is The Unfortunate Traveller by Thomas Nashe This book was first published in 1594 and can be found in the public domain. # 2 is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, #3 would be Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. We will start choosing April’s book about mid March.

    Dear Ms. McFadden,

while we are honored to have you both as a member and a contributor to our threads, and while we appreciate your personal insight on how the publishing industry works, the thread about Sugar's 10th is still primarily self promotion, so I am moving it ot our self promotion thread.

i loved COD, I have no idea if you will find it funny, realistic, stupid or offensive. I found it all of the above, but most of all, i fell in love with the crazy guy who is known as ignatius...

speaking of strange books, are you familiar with melinda haynes? (mother of pearl) i was quite taken with her Chalktown

Hi! I can't say I've read any of your books but I will definitely look into them as I read just about anything, I do however have a question if you wouldn't mind answering, as an aspiring novelist (who also happens to be a black female with no interest in sex/thug life stories) how hard was it for you to write a book and get it marketed as something other than 'urban lit' just because you were a black woman? Or is it still proving near impossible. The inner journalist (or plain out nosy) part of me is dying to know.

P.S. I see your from Brooklyn, I live in the Bronx, it's nice to find a fellow New Yorker online.

Greetings. I was looking in the community section, and a person popped up that I supposedly know, but obviously don't. When I checked on their site, I saw your posting about African American authors/literature. I just wanted to say that I couldn't agree with you more. One time I went to look of a Toni Morrison novel in the literature section, and they referred me to the African American literature section. I thought that was BS, and I told the store manager so.

    Have a nice day.

I know exactly who you are and have been a big fan since the beginning. I have every book you have written and will continue to purchase everything you write. I will re-purchase Sugar and hopefully will send a picture. I will pass the message on to my fellow readers and hopefully you'll reach the goal of 10,000 copies.

Girl, you are all over the place too. I have every one of your books, but Sugar was my favorite. My new book will hit the book store in July of 2009. Are you working on a new book?
