I loved this book! It had all the elements of chick lit that I love (lovable female protagonist who struggles realistically with relationships, quirky friends, family members who mean well, but cause problems, etc.) without having all the elements I don't like (whiny main character, totally unrealistic situations, cardboard flat supporting characters). I really couldn't put this book down. It was a great look athow family, while meaning very well, can certainly put a damper on our pursuit of happiness!

Whoa! So many lies and manipulation! It reminds me of modern day reality shows! Everyone forming secret alliances and back stabbing and lying. Entertaining story though sometimes a little hard to follow when I read it when sleepy!

I loved this one! It is a nnice fluffy piece of chick lit, but I found the characters likable, not whiny! I really liked the format of journal/email/etc. It is a super quick read. Of course it was predictable, but there were so many fun bits added in that it really keeps the reader going. This definitely gets placed in my "really great" chick lit pile!

Oh! And it was not until just now, looking at the cover art that I realized what the title means! Duh!

  • The Between Boyfriends Book: A Collection of Cautiously Hopeful Essays
    • Rated 3 stars

This was a fast read! I read it this morning while lazing around in bed. It was actually more entertaining than I thought it would be. There were a couple laugh out loud parts. Chupack tells some funny stories about dating, but perhaps I am a little too far removed from the dating scene, being married for 4 years, to fully relate. The book is a series of essays on dating, but I do wish that there was also a short conclusion to tie it all together.

This was hilarious! What a farce! It felt a lot like I was reading an episode of the Simpsons. The jokes were presented as real situations which made them all the funnier! The humour was bang on, full of dry wit! Burroughs is one satirist that I will have to keep my eyes on!

I really enjoyed this original chick lit story! Imagine, a chick lit novel where the protagonist doesn't live in New York or London and work for a publishing company!?! Seriously, I found this a change of pace from the typical fare - honest characters, pretty believable dialogue. I was even able to suspend my belief about the situation of house arrest - that premise is a little far fetched, but I was able to get over that quickly.

Well, I got about 4 pages in and quit. This one is no better than the first one, The Thin Pink Line. Yuck.

  • Love Like That (Red Dress Ink)

OK, I have to say I really did not like this one. The characters are so vile and bitchy, so completely disrespectful of one another. Not a world I'd ever want to be a part of! I kept pushing myself to finish the book hoping that it would get better, but sadly, no. The one amusing part is that Roman is living in Yaounde, Cameroon. That is where my sister lived for a while and met her husband. Her version of that place is *really* different than the stereotyped version in this book!

  • Hating Valentine's Day (Red Dress Ink)
    • Rated 3 stars

This is a cute though formulaic story of a girl with a rough Valentine's Day history. The parallels to Dicken's A Christmas Story are sometimes overly sappy, but overall are an acceptable way to advance the predictable plot. The last 30 pages or so really picked up and I blasted through those in a few minutes, leaving me with an overriding positive feeling toward the book. Bottom line, this is middle of the road chick lit - cute enough to give a read, but standard enough to not give a second thought about once the book is finished.

Wow! This is not the typical chick lit fare! I could not put this one down and ending up reading and finishing it late in the night. This novel has a depth and sensitivity toward the characters that was totally unexpected. I was thinking this would be a nice light Red Dress Ink read, but it totally surprised me! I really cared for and ached with the characters. I felt their struggles, their vulnerabilities. Previously I had enjoyed Rech's first novel, Losing It much more than average chick lit, but this book surpassed even her first one. I will certainly pick up any of Rech's future books! Thanks for providing chick lit that has real substance and heart!!
