This is a cute little cozy mystery. It's a little stereotypical at times, but not a bad way to pass an afternoon. I did enjoy this one, the first in the series, more than the Sugar Cookie Murder, a later one in the series.

  • Candyfreak: A Journey Through the Chocolate Underbelly of America (Unabridged)

This is a truly funny book about obsession. Steve Almond lives and breathes candy! I loved hearing about all the regionally family owned candy companies that are sadly being eaten up by the Big Three. How sad that a place like Walmart which is supposed to be so all-American (yeah, right) can't support these small American companies and instead gouges them out of the market. Politics aside, this book made me so hungry for candy. I even ended up buying my Halloween candy while reading it - two months early!

I read this last year and remember enjoying it while I read it, but the story didn't linger with me long after that. I do remember relating to the feeling of being the middle child trying to hold it all together.

  • The Rome Affair
    • Rated 4 stars

Laura Caldwell has done it again! This fast paced, edge of your seat thriller is riveting until the very end! Rachel and Nick Blakely are an up and coming high society couple with their share of troubles. Struggling to forgive him for an affair, Rachel falls into an affair of her own while on a business trip in Rome. This one night of passion is the beginning of a complete unraveling of Rachel’s life. With twists and turns throughout, this novel can’t be put down.

The Rome Affair is a tightly woven psychological mystery. How much can a marriage endure? What secrets should be kept only between friends? How far will you go to hide your own secrets? This novel explores all these questions and more, keeping you reading until the very last page. My only concern is that the ending, while exciting, can possibly be surmised based on the teasers on the back of the book cover. Even guessing the ending, however, doesn’t dampen the thrill ride of this novel. Laura Caldwell has successfully stepped out of her usual “chicklit” genre and secured a place for herself in the thrillers.

Overall, just OK. It takes quite a while to get into any of the mystery or romance part of the story. There is a nice red herring bit that made me think one way for most of the book, thinking I was so smart to have figured it all out, when, bam! That ain't it, sister. On the romance side of things, some of the sex scenes are really hot and some are a little cheesy, but fun all the same.

This was a quick fun read, an interesting look at what folks will do for love. It is also an interesting commentary on what love really is and how sometimes we don't even recognize it when it is there!

Wow! After several attempts at this one, I'm just going to pass it on. I really couldn't get into it at all.

  • Sex Crimes

Interesting writing style - it reads like a true crime story. This really gives a good look into the slightly warped mind of Christine Chandler. Overall, though, I wasn't all that concerned with what happened or why. It just seemed like a pretty f'd up relationship.

This was a fast read. Maybe I am just especially mushy and sensitive this time of the month, but I found this predictable story very touching. Not great literature, but entertaining nonetheless.

This was my first Bad Boy book and my first vampire book! A great introduction to both! The second story was definitely my favorite.
