I have always been a bookworm, though my time for reading reduced drastically when I started a family 15 years ago. However, nowadays I am reading more and more once again, and thoroughly enjoying it.

I will read just about anything, but tend to have phases of reading one type of book more than others. For the past few months it has... more »

Compelling is a wonderful word to describe the book. I am glad your were able to finish it and were not disappointed. It is a book that many people would find too....well just too much. You mentioned in your public notice that you enjoy historical fiction. Have you ever read River God by Wilbur Smith? My book club is reading it this month and it is totally fantastic. It takes place in Ancient Egypt and is written by a slave. Very good! Another tough read though. You might want to take a look at it.

Let me know what you think when you are done. It is easy to get sucked in. It has been about 3 years or so since I read it, so my brain is a bit foggy, but I remember the feelings I got when reading it. I'll be curious what you thought/felt.

YES! Jonathan Strange is fantastic. It is long, but worth it. It is twisted, fascinating and bizarre.

Jonathan Strange and Norrell is a thousand times better ON TAPE. Try to get CDs or tapes from a library. It is excellent in every way, but wordy and slow.

I was not exactly comparing... just that its take on magic is as interesting as the one of the Bartimaeus trilogy, albeit different in kind.

But yes it does make a rather funny coincidence ^^

I will have to see if I can read them. I also enjoyed very much the first instalment.

Jonathan Strange is a long read, not something you can pick up for a few minutes. I found it satisfying at the end, but had problems keeping with it through the middle.

Hi there! I'm just dropping by to welcome you to The 100+ Book Challenge. The idea of the group is pretty much self explanatory - try to read 100 or more books in a one year period. If you do have any questions, please feel free to send a message to me or Tenia. In the meantime, good luck reaching your goal!
