    Yes, I'm totally loving the book. I'm in the midst of training for a half Ironman, and swimming is by far my weakest area - - so I'm using this book as inspiration!! She's AMAZING in terms of her will power and determination. I'm actually just petrified reading about her exploits - - between the giant waves and the sharks and the cold. Yikes! I'm chilled just reading about it.

    Greetings from the PBT Meet, Greet, & Be Sweet game!

    I see you've been reading the No. 1 Detective Agency books--the only words I can think of to describe them are charming, sweet, poignant--I've never read such "nice" books in my life! I probably would never have read them if not for PBT; I'm glad I tried them. I keep seeing Don't Lets Go To the Dogs Tonight popping up on the June reads thread, so I'll most likely try that one, too, in time.

    Hi Punxsygal, I haven't moved my Africa book from I'm reading to Read yet. I read The English Patient for the Africa tag. I had seriously considered No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency for this month's tag and now I am wishing that I read that one instead. The English Patient was a good story, just not my kind of thing. It was real slow and I just wanted it to end. I gave it a 4 only because I couldn't fault it enough to give a 3. You have my interest piqued, I will probably pick McCall's book up at the library and read it sometime soon.

    Our shelves don't match up but I have only started adding books recently. I found that trying to go back and add all the books I have ever read was completely irrational! I will read about anything regardless of the content...I enjoy learning about many different subjects. Working in the financial world sounds very interesting...I always think of a fast-paced life in business suits! :)

    I haven't read the Voyage of the Narwhal yet but I definitely want to pick it up. Right now there is a stack about 10 books high on my nightstand so I'm working on whittling that down.

    Hi punxsygal! I just read your review of Don't Let's Go on the PBT discussion and agree completely that Bobo and Van grew up despite their parents. I can't imagine growing up in an African country, but I was also surprised at the worms, drinking (both by the parents and the girls at such a young age), and the general disregard the parents seemed to have had for the girls.

    i am planning on reading it soon... glad to hear that you enjoyed it... because this is a book i have given myself as an "assignment" ~ so to speak, not just for pleasure... this is because i have won a holiday to Easter Island, and don't laugh... but i never even knew where it was... and had to look it up on the net to find out where the hell i am going (i'm dumb i know... but hey, i live in New Zealand so it's not like it's exactly local)... so anyway, i was hoping i would not only learn something before i go ~ but that i'd actually enjoy reading it and not feel like it was "homework"... haha.

    I'm pretty sure I did read it, I can't remember :P I read so many books, it's hard to remember them all. Some really stick with me, others just drift away. It's the ones that stick that I tend to recommend to other people. I'm from way up in NE Wisconsin, 45 minutes north of Green Bay. Where are you?

    Thanks so much for the recommendation! I haven't read that book, but it sounds right up my alley. I love these real life adventure stories, especially if they involve the mountains and climbing. Thanks so much for taking the time to mention it - off to add it to my TBR shelf.

    Hi! I'm tagging you from Play book tag! I see you have Ravens of Avalon on your shelf. This is one of the few Avalon books by Bradley that I haven't read, maybe the only. How was it? If you liked it you should definitely check out Mists of Avalon-this one is set in King Arthur's time. One of my favorites!
