“I recently finished Pollan's "Omnivore's Dilemma" and followed it with Nina Planck's "Real Food". What she recommends is exactly what most of our grand parents heartily recommended for healthy living and what really convinces me is the science and resaerch which she uses to recommend unlike our grandparentrs who just said "good for you":)- which is good enough..just that it needs more to convince our generation. Today, we are flooded with ample "lower yor cholesterol and live longer" bibles predominantly coming from new age industrial foodies but Nina simply goes back to the basics - egg, milk veggies and fish.
I am a vegetarian and don't eat fish at all and many of my vegetarian ancestors have lived so long that it makes me wonder - what are we are missing that our vegetarian ancestors knew? I am absolutely on board with her about using natural fats. I have switched to whole milk, grass fed organic eggs and fermented soy products. Iam quite keen how it will work out. I just wish she had reiterated the importance of excercising and eating the right quantities of food and the relationship between satiety and industrial foods. Food is not the only factor...our mental activity physical excercise and lifestyle all matter.
Overall an excellent book - worth reading.”
