High Fidelity is one of my favorite novels, and I also love About A Boy. This book, sadly, isn't as good. Perfectly readable, even quite enjoyable in some spots, maybe I've just come to expect more from Nick Hornby. Regardless, this book is much like Long Way Down — you may like it, but I can't see anyone loving this book. It lacks the charm of his better stories and never seems to find its stride.

This is the best book about home renovation you'll ever read. Giffels is absolutely insane for taking on this challenge, but at the same time he makes you want to try something nearly impossible. One of the funnier and warmer books I've read in awhile, I've started recommending it to anyone I know who owns a house.

Jay Mohr is truly a comedic talent. Unfortunately, he's not a particularly great writer. But I love the institution of SNL and this book definitely makes a contribution to that legacy. But it also feels like there are things missing. The little moments Mohr goes into working behind the scenes with some of comedy's finest are hilarious, interesting and sometimes even touching. But you find yourself wishing he'd put a few more of these moments in the book. The whole thing reads like a bunch of things that happened to him instead of a cohesive look at his two years on the show, but if you're a fan (of Mohr or SNL) you will appreciate quite a bit of this book.
