    hey!
yes, i LOVE languages. I can't honestly say that i'm "fluent," but I can definitely get around and carry on a pretty good conversation. I've been studying French for about four years now, and Chinese for nearly a year. Both are very fun! And I would recommend either! Personally, French is easier to read and write, but Chinese is easier to speak and listening comprehension. But, of course, this varies from person to person. My favorite...if i had to choose, would be Chinese. It is extremely interesting and unique in many ways, particularly in pronunciation and writing. Plus, it's an ancient language that a lot of people speak. It is challenging, but TOTALLY worth it!
I hope I've been helpful. Let me know what you think! :)

    Hi Poco,

Thank you for the note on my page. Sorry it took me so long to reply.

The thing is, Poco, if you really and truly enjoy writing then don't allow anyone to talk you out of it! I always say (especially to young aspiring authors) 'Dare to Dream...and Dream BIG!'

And don't compare yourself to your sister or anyone else at this time. You're too young to compare or worry about how much better anyone else may be. Focus on telling your stories the best way you know how. Like everything in life, you get better the more you do it. So write! :)

Find the passion in writing. Write what you want to write about. Experiment a bit too. You don't have to write anything specific--that means the whole world of writing is open to you. So think of it as a journey--a very exciting one. The thing with being a writer is that every story or book is a journey and you're never quite sure where it's going to take you until you reach the end of the story.

Since you're in grade 8, you have a few years of school left. Make English/Language Arts your priority. Study hard. Everything you learn in that class will help you to be a better writer. And read lots! Read books you really are interested in. Ask yourself what parts of it you like. And why? When I was young, I'd often take a red pen and circle or mark a paragraph or sentence that I thought was really good. Often it was description.

I had a young girl talk to me today when I was signing my books at an Exhibition. I told her to just keep on writing. Start up a blog. You can get one free at www.blogger.com. Write there, about anything you want. Writers write! :) Don't worry about spelling so much or punctuation, not the first time around anyway.

To make your work better, write it all first. Then read it aloud and make corrections. Then put it away for 12 or more days. Then read it again and make changes. Then put it away for a month. Then make changes. This is a great way to become a better writer.

And when you write something really awesome...send it to me--with your permission to post it on my blog. :) One of my goals is to help young writers when I can. I remember being young and wanting to be a writer. I was a journalist at 14--paid $5/week.

Dreams do happen. As long as you remember to dream them. :)

    All the best!!

Hi, Poco--I'd love to know what you think of "Tortilla Flat" when you finish it. It's one Steinbeck that I told myself I should read and have never gotten around to doing. Hope you're having a good summer. I remember summers where I was devouring books all summer long--loved them!

Glad you had a good time with your family, hope everyone got home safely. Did you finish Tortilla Flat by now? What are you currently reading?

The ABC Murders was good, am definately looking forward to reading more of her books, and I'm not done Julie of the Wolves yet, though I'm enjoying it. I actually had never seen a doctor who episode before last year, but it's a rather good show, and kind of a staple in the UK.

Hi, sorry to hear you were sick, especially over vacation. I don't think I've read the books you're working on, but I'm currently reading the A.B.C. Murders and Julie of the Wolves. Hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend, most of my family was away, so I spent most of it watching season 3 of Doctor Who. Did you do anything to celebrate?

Juging by your selection, on your shelf, i say you would enjoy this book. its not very "action-packed" but the story is clear and the portrayl of human feelings is great. :) i read it for school, so we basically dissected the entire book. i totally reccomend it! please tell me what you thought of it and feel free to ask any questions about the story [3
