As you may have noticed, I read a lot of children's books and young adult fiction. I also enjoy mysteries, adventures, and romance novels. Basically, I love to read whenever I have a chance, and summer's great for that! I used to teach middle school special education and now teach elementary special education, so many of these books are for... more »

A delightful little tale about a half elf/half troll who sets out to save her trees from the humans who want to burn them down. The language is a little difficult for the interest level (interest 3rd-4th, language 6th) but it is a fun ecological tale that could be used as a class read-aloud.

Fascinating story about the heroes of the Coast Guard in Alaska. The writing is a little choppy, especially at the beginning, but it is still well worth the read. I learned a lot about the fishing industry, much of which was very disturbing. My respect for the men and women of the Coast Guard, especially those on the Alaskan patrol, increased exponentially. What they do is extraordinary, especially under the conditions in this story, where all but five of a crew of 47 were successfully rescued. I'm glad someone told their story!

This was a fantastic conclusion to the Codex Alera. I like how the issues were clearly wrapped up, while leaving room for conjecture about the future of Alera and its allies. I felt this was the best book of the series... a delightful, engaging fantasy similar to Tolkein's creation.

Wow, what an amazing story. I learned more about WWII from this simply, engagingly told memoir than I ever did in history class. Chester Nez and his fellow Navajos were true heroes, and to my mind, define what it means to be "a real man." I don't typically like non-fiction all that much, but this book was well worth the read!

This is not Linda Howard's usual style of book. It was told in the first person, and was really funny. :) If you're a fan of Janet Evanovich, you'll enjoy the laughs and mystery of this book.

It was ok. Rather cheesy, and I'm not that impressed with the flow of the writing, but decent as a fast summer read.

What a fantastic book! Everyone I know said how good it was, and I wish I'd read it sooner! I couldn't put it down. I felt like I was there in the story, talking to the characters personally. I cared about all of them, and it made me think about the civil rights movement from yet another perspective. One of my favorite books! It should become a classic, right up there with "To Kill a Mockingbird" (which I've been inspired to go back and reread).

Although the book does not take place in Atlantis, it is a delightful read that still explains why Atlantis sank beneath the seas. It is a classic tale of good vs. evil, and love conquering all (mostly). Karma, and the consequences of actions, intended or not, are the central premise of the story. The story tells us that says all great civilizations rise and fall as a consequence of the actions of its citizens.

I haven't read a book in a long time that really creeped me out. This one did! Highly suspenseful, in Mrs. Garner's usual manner. If you're scared of spiders, do not read this book!

What a fun beginning to a novel! I like it enough to watch "The Dresden Files" on Netflix.
