I see you started book 7 of the Niccolo series - I absolutely love these (& the Lymod series before them) - how do you find them?
I took my mum to a book signing of this one, we were lucky to meet her & even luckier that she finished the series before she died...

I'm in the middle of a really confusing situation at the moment. Would you mind going to that authors record and at the top of the "information tab" (or whatever it is called these days) put a comment in about that. Otherwise, after I approve the !@#$%% change request, people will be submitting changes to put it BACK!

(I'm really having fun today. Can you tell?)

    Thanks,

Is Shards of Honor a good book to start out with for Lois McMaster Bujold? I've heard great things about her.

Thank you for the in-depth recommendations, when I get a chance I’ll see if the library’s got any of the ones you mentioned.
    I love finding new authors.

Hey Phoenix, in your review of “The Last Unicorn” you spoke highly of Patricia McKillip, an author I’m not familiar with. Which one of her books is a good one to start on? Thanks.

    Shipping News by Proulx:
Books on tape!!! Do it while you are driving, that way the build-up doesn't waste your time, and you get the benefit of an actor giving the proper voice to the words. Shipping News is great in audio.
I wonder if I can find audio of the great books from your shelf that I would never have the patience to read in print? Jane Austen?

My classes really ARE sweet Phoenix! This semester I decided to start off with three three-hour courses and see how that goes. That way I can still finish out my bachelor's in about two years if I take summer and winter courses at least. I'm thinking it was the wise action, especially as I'm taking two serious literature courses this semester. I wasn't excited for English Lit of the Rennaissance class, but knew it was an important class so I jumped at it, and turns out it's the department chair teaching it and he's got a really nice, compelling oration style and so now I'm excited (his voice gets loud and deep and almost angry when he's stressing a point, he reminds me a little of one of my best friends in that regard, fiercely knowledged). My Intro to Sociology class was kind of a throwaway gen ed course, but it's an area I'm interested in and the professor is this really passionate, lively Muslim-American man who promises to make the course a joy, I think I've already impressed him a little with my personal introduction to the class, I hope anyway. Then there's Romantic and Victorian Lit, which was, of course, the one I was really looking forward to; it promises to be the most difficult of the three due to workload, but it's the work I'm happiest to do. The professor is one of us really passionate, bookish types. This class clearly plays to exactly what she's interest in, which you'd think would make her fickle and hard to impress, but her lecture style relies heavily on the opinion of her audience, to whom she listens to actively and seems open to individual opinions. It was the most trying of the classes so far, far more data-filled, plus it's a 6pm to 9pm class, so tiring. Still, I proved to be one of the most outspoken in class, and the others that chimed in as much seemed to be much older folks with teaching backgrounds, so between that and pointing out that Melmoth the Wanderer is my favorite novel of the era, I think I impressed her as well. I always enjoyed school, but never this much. Don't hold me to that two months from now when I have multiple large assignments due, HA!

The email on your site bounces back, where can I send details about book review submissions?

    Thanks for the Deerskin heads-up.
I started Ringworld some years back, did not finish it. If you get to page 30 and are not hooked, consign it to the dumpster shelf.

As am I. I love the Terre d'Ange books but it's time to let them go. Maybe in a couple years if she returns I'd be up for it. I am quite excited as her sequel to Santa Olivia is coming out soon, but I am def looking forward to seeing how she tackles an urban fantasy!

hey :) I didn't know if you had seen it, but up on the Shelfari blog they had a review Q&A with J. Carey: http://blog.shelfari.com/my_weblog/2011/07/jacqueline-carey-on-naamahs-blessing-and-what-comes-next.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+typepad%2Fshelfari%2Fmy_weblog+%28Shelfari%29

All the way at the bottom, last answer from her, looks like she is working on something new and contemporary :)

How do you combine books? I noticed when I added a book recently that there are two books with the same author and title and I can't figure out how to submit a combine request.

I noticed that the site for "Commitment Hour" says it's the second book in the League of Peoples series. Is this a series that requires the first book be read to understand it, or is it stand-alone within a universe, sort of like the Culture? I am compelled by your review but wondering if I'll have to read book 1 first.

Might look like a shameless plug, maybe it is one, but I've published my book Forge of Stones 3 months ago, and though I have almost 200 downloads it still doesn't have a review on Amazon or on Smashwords. That means no real feedback so far.. It's also available for free from Smashwords and B&N (Amazon still has to catch up). I don't know if it's up your alley, but I'm sure you could at least tell a friend that would be interested. I'm looking forward to reading your opinion on my work.
