I come from a book-loving family. My mom and dad were always reading, so I suppose it was only natural that my younger brother and myself started reading at an early age. He also started to write stories (short and long) and still does when he finds the time. My uncle was a poet and a writer. Me? I'm content with reading what other people write.... more »

Pretty amazing and a cruise I certainly recommend to anyone who can do it. Like our Alaska cruise last year, it is something you will talk about and remember for years. On the other hand, if I never again get that close to a crocodile (unless there are bars between us) that would be just fine by me. :-)

Hi Peter, Thaks for adding me...!
You have a fairly wide selection on your shelf; may I recommend some of James Lee Burke’s novels. And while I'm at it, there is another James, :] James W Hall. They are both on the cutting edge of writing technique these days, and are richly detailed, and have energetic story lines.

Must admit that I only read the first book, back when it had just been published. Didn't know it was going to grow into a series, but should have expected it. LOL!

Remember enjoying it at the time, so you could do much worse. The original JAWS novel, for instance. :-)

Peter, thank you for your response. There are a lot more I need to put on my shelf too. I have read some zombie books and seen a lot of zombie movies....but...Max Brooks has taken it all to a new place. It is hard to describe but it is actually excellent literature. Read his World War Z first and then read his Zombie Survival Guide. Shipping News was one I read because I collect the Pulitzer winners for fiction. I am not sure why...it is not that they are necessarily better than other book awards. i just started doing. I love some of the winners and not others. One of the winners is one of my favorites ever- The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love by Oscar Hijuelos, -Julie

Thank you for your recommendation on The Historian. It helps a lot. Reading books that have a mixture of mystery and thriller when it's dark outside with low lights in the room you are in is fun. The more of the recommendations I look at the more I think I shall be making a trip to my local book store very soon.
