I don't know what I like most - reading books or reading about books. Sometimes I spend more time finding more books to read than I spend reading the books I have!

I travel a lot for my job (and for pleasure) and find myself with time in a hotel room or airport to read while it seems that others watch TV. In fact, I rarely turn the TV... more »

The discussion has been posted for the Good Reads November selection, Mistress of the Art of Death.

We're doing something different for December to wrap up the year. We've posted a list of all of the books nominated that weren't selected with the hope you'll find the time in December to read one of the books you voted for that didn't win and, then, share your opinion with us! Feel free to also share your thoughts on any of the books you've already read.

I have read 6 or 7 Terri Blackstock's and I love her stuff. Hubby read 2 of the 3 Spellman books and he thought they were hillarioua too. I just finished California Demon by Julie Kenner and am probably heading for The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane.

You're gonna LOVE the Spellmans LOL!

Hubby listened to If I Stay and he really loved it too. I was kind of surprised because it is more of a young adult woman's story....

Did you decide to pass on The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo?

IF I Stay sounded like a ghost type story but it is well done and a love story. It deals with the love she has for her family and friends. Without spoiling the story...she is a bit of a rebel in her family of a rocker Dad and boyfriend. She loves classical music and the cello. The Mom and Dad and younger brother all go on a drive with her and there is a car accident. She observes the next 24 hours and the murse tells her remaining family it is up to her " If she stays" or dies. IT is a very unusual story because you do expect out of body and ghosty story but it turns out to not be that way at all. And you expect it to be very sad and while it has some sad parts it is all about hope and love and friendship.

there were some rough sex scenes that I did not like and then in disk 6 was a rape scene that was graphic. I just don't like reading stuff like that. And the background stuff can detail you to death... with so many good books out there it was not worth my time to continue.

I have been raving about If I Stay...THAT was a great 4 hour listen that mesmerized me. The depth and emotion in such a quick little book! It was totally unexpected.

I like what you say in your profile about reading books and spending time reading about books. I spend a lot of time searching other people's shelves for good books for hubby and I to read. I also browse our overdrive system from our library for audio books and we each keep about 20 books loaded on our players. Have you decided to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? I just could not handle the rough parts....

    Hi Pepi,
Glad to hear from you. Sounds like you're really enjoying your MP3. I love my iPod. I can't go anywhere without it. I'll let you know about the Tenth Gift. I hear it's pretty good.

We're leaving this week for the Food & Wine Festival and we're looking forward to it. We'll also be visiting with our local friends and I may treat myself and have them order me a Kindle. I was waiting for Canada to come up with an alternative as Kindle is not available here, but the options don't even come close to the Kindle. I would have to download from the computer as Whispernet is not available here either or I'll download when I'm in the US.

Your week-end on Jekyl Island sounds like a lot of fun too. I've never heard of it, but I'll look it up.

    Have a great time !

    Pepi,

Just wanted to touch base and let you know I received my birthday gift early.
It was the Kindle 2. I absolutely love it. Now when I travel, I do not have to
    bring 5 or 6 books!!!!

My Vegas trip was wonderful and exciting. Had a marvelous time and even won
    gambling.

I am reading Pat Conroy's book, South of Broad. I love it. He has another best seller. Check it out on Amazon. There is a video of Conroy explaining the story
    line of his book.

Hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer. Keep well.

    Hi Pepi,

Great to hear from you ! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip in Hawaii. I've been there a few times myself, although it's beautiful, I find it soooo... far to get to. It takes 2 days for me to get there and 2 days to come back so I have to go for a longer vacation.

I'll be happy to give you all the information you need when you come to Quebec. Hopefully, I'll get to meet you and your husband too :-)

I think Shelfari is a wonderful place to discover all kinds of interesting books, people and places !

I'm glad you had time for some interesting reading. I'll check out Big Stone Gap...

We're in the middle of a heat wave so I'm spending most of my days in the pool. This is a wonderful time of year ! (for me at least) Glad you missed the tropical storm and hurricanes while in Hawaii. They can change your travel plan in no time !

Enjoy the rest of your summer and Happy Reading !
