Hi Patti, Have you read any of Matthew Pearl's other "literary" mysteries? I've had "The Dante Club" on my shelf for ages, but haven't read it yet. He seems to have quite a loyal following. D

So happy to hear from you! We do a large variety of crafts from my crocheted items to both of us making wood plaques, magnets (Mostly dogs) scroll saw portraits, journals, stuffed bears, etc. If you visit my TWO HAPPY blog at http://beaver-kerrie.blogspot.com you will be able to scroll down the page and see most of what we make. I would love you to visit. I am starting an Etsy Shop on line, also after the craft show. We do always have great fun going. I have to hold myself back from buying other's beautiful creations! God bless, Kerrie

    Hi Patti!

I'm so sorry this is such a late reply!! Just to let you know, I have a chronic illness that keeps me from doing things (like writing emails), so that's why I'm so late. Just wanted to explain. :)

Hehe.....You made very good guesses about my age (and gave me some very nice compliments-thank you!). I do care about what I put into my head....I was home-schooled (how did you know??) So, now I'll tell you the secret number (haha)....I'm 28-soon to be 29. I don't know if that's actually "college-age", but it's close enough. Good for you, you pegged me pretty well! :)

By the way, how old is your daughter? Y'all look so much alike in your photo!
Read anything interesting recently? Hope you have a good day! :)

I see you have added Paullina Simons books. THey are wonderful. I will be curious to see what you think. I also See you have added The Professor and the Madman. This is a very good book. I was worried that a book about the OED couldn't be good but I was pleasently surprised.
Anyways always good to read what you are reading in the Historical Fict group.

Patti, you may be the nicest person I've never actually met! :-) Thank you for thinking of me! This term is going by smoothly so far, which is such a joy. Just counting the days until my reading time is free for whatever I want. :-D I just ordered Pillars of the Earth from Paperback Swap, and I think it's going to be a few months before I can dive into it - can't wait!

Enjoy Sebastiano when you read it. The editing can be disruptive at times but it is a good story. It gets especially good in the latter half when mass emmigration is affecting the families.
You might also like "That summer in Sicily" by Marlena de Blasi. That is a lovely, soulful story.

Oh, No! I did not know that you could do that!! How interesting! Thank you for the tip. I am reading 2 books at present, Angela's Ashes and "Who Calls Me Beautiful" by Regina Franklin. We have been so busy that I only get to read a few pages at a time but I am making progress. I have 40 pages of my manuscript typed, which doesn't sound like much but I can see progress there now too, ha! My hubby is doing better, Cancer doc is holding off one of the chemo meds for as long as he can and that was good news yesterday! He is going to have just one chemo once a month for now. God Bless and thanks so much for writing.

Hi Patti, I was excited to see the Alison Weir book about Anne Boleyn on your shelf. Is this a new one? I couldn't tell from the description if it is fiction or non-fiction. I just know it sounds like something I want to read ;-)

    LOL

It was sad. I read it on the back of a motorcycle. DH and I went to Palo Duro Canyon over the weekend. I thought it would give me something to do while we were going through the non descript parts of Texas. I had no idea I would cry so hard. It is really hard to cry on the back of a motorcycle! I love a book that can elicit a strong emotional response. When I realized that the siblings thought Rachel had died rather than abandon her I thought I was going to lose it. The mother's choice to hide Kimo which may have actually caused his death...WOW

I was so impressed with Brennert's use of history in this book. The parallel between the mother and daughter esxperiences in the camps was very clever. I was in awe of the people who really took it as their mission in life to make Kalaupapa a place to live. I want to read some non fiction pieces on these historical figures. I also liked the mythology weaved throughout.

    THanks for sharing your thoughts.

The only Forster I haven't read is his non-fiction on the novel, and I like him enough that I may one day read that. If you know of any Forster-like writers, please share! I'm currently addicted to W. Somerset Maugham and Evelyn Waugh, but I'm trying to ration so I don't read all of their books in a summer, like I did with Forster's.
