Hi Paul. I noticed some of the comments below about possible classroom use. I've been wondering about that too. I think the adult I work with might find it interesting and fun. I wish I had time to keep up with the many books people mention on this site that I'd like to read. I guess I'll continue making my "wish list."

I've been playing with lists, wondering how to arrange books on my shelves and how to "read" other people's shelves as they get more full. It is interesting that in shelf view, you can view as a list then you can do edits on individual books or bulk edits. I see that we could develop a tag for a group and everyone in the group could tag each book for the group too - although that seems a bit cumbersome unless it's for a pupose. The tags and searching to books through the tag cloud is interesting too. I wonder if a user can create his or her own tag cloud....

    Hi Paul,

I'm thinking about using Shelfari in my reading class this upcoming school year. I teach at a tech school, so when I was introduced to Shelfari earlier this summer, I thought it would be a great way to get my students to keep track of what they are reading and write in response to that reading.

Students, of course, would have to add me as a friend, both so that I can see their reading choices and keep them accountable for using the website properly. I'd like them to post reviews of their independent reading books (as well as the books that we're reading in class). I like the idea that their reviews have a much larger audience than just me. I also created a group on Shelfari that would be just for my students, where they can respond to discussion topics and easily see what classmates are reading, read classmates' reviews, etc.

Another idea that I had would be to build a bookshelf for my students that is representative of our classroom library. I thought it might make choosing independent reading books a little bit easier for my reluctant readers...

Those are my thoughts! Let me know if you have any further ideas for using Shelfari in the classroom.
