    From what I saw 'bride of the Lamb' looks like a hard read. I have a new interest in all things orthodox. I had just read about the BCP and its place in the Anglican tradition....let me know your overall thoughts, once you're done. I would be interested in knowing what you thought about it.

    The Critical Ideological Politics group hasn't been very active recently, so I thought I'd stir things up. Come and enjoy.

    I just read a book in which he was cited a good many times and I really liked the quotes by him. I am in the process of ordering one his books today. I thought maybe you had ran across him in your readings.

    Greetings!
    I noticed that you had read Jung's "The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious" and was wondering what you thought of it. Years ago I read Jung's biographical "Memories, Dreams, Reflections" and found it to be quite informative.
    Best wishes,
    Scott (tapbirds)

    Since I got back from my vacation, I have spent the last four nights teaching the bible study portion of a VBS at our church for 4th 5th and 6th graders. As much as I love diving into theology, it has been refreshing this week to speak to 10, 11 and 12 year olds that only need to know that God's love is not the same type of love that they see on tv or hear about on the radio. It has been a neat week to get back to the basics and see God through a child's eyes again.

    I removed your reply unintentionally because I am not fully familiar with the Shelfari system, and I apparently misapplied the method for posting a sur-replying to your reply. I am a concerned that you thought otherwise. If I had removed your reply intentionally, why would I have invited you to repost your reply?

    My feelings on nationalism run the gamut and I really make no particular distinction in that regard. You can tell that by my library. When nationalism is read into the Bible I usually will contest that idea. I honestly think it is dangerous.
    ==============================

    I think that nationalism is honestly dangerous, period. It lends itself to fundamentalism, which I would classify as a psychosis, and thus has to be watched carefully.

    The only particular danger I see in reading nationalism into or along with the Bible, is that some people misinterpret the Bible as a plain text handbook to ordinary life. Generally speaking that isn't what the Bible is about.

    But you're quite right, when that sort of Bible interpretation is mixed with the wrongs sort of exclusivist nationalism the combination is explosive and very very barbaric.

    Great, when I accepted your friendship request Shelfari erased the note that was with it. Could you resend the website urls?

    In the interim, let me say to you several things that may clarify to you where I'm coming from:

    (1) I regularly donate to Peace Now and Rabbis For Human Rights. I also regularly participate in the American programs of the Shalom Hartman Institute.

    (2) None of those groups is very happy with the state of Israeli politics. Not at all. They are each despised by the Haredi and by the warmongers in Israel, and the sentiment is mutual.

    (3)However, none of those groups would accept a proposition like: "The state of human rights abuse in Israel is as bad or worse than it is in [say] Egypt or even Jordan or Turkey. We don't even have to consider the situations in Syria or Saudi Arabia. "

    Again, its a matter of making judgments in the same contextual framework and by the same yardstick. You don't go around judging Israeli politics by the standard of 1980 to 2000s America unless you in fact apply the same standard to those adverse to Israel. [Lets not talk about America before the 1970s or post-2001, shall we? The comparisons might then not come to the correct conclusion.....]
