Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (BOTM) or you can debate the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in the choosing of BOTM and the discussions. The current books are pinned to the top for that month. There are older discussions that can be found by searching discussions. If there is any way the group administrator can help further feel free to ask one of us. If you don’t own the book the list can be found at the top in the group description or at http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845. A downloadable list of the second edition is available at http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?

    Make Merry....

"Better your anger and fears flow like ink from a pen onto the page, or paint onto a canvas, than blood on the sidewalk. Better your blows strike the faces of drums or cords of melody, than the faces and backs of women and children!"

Hello Pacof, sorry to take so very long to reply. I don't check on here often.

Yes, I have read all of Ms. Payne's books. They have been a tremendous help and enjoyable reads. Leanne Payne has the rare gift of holistic knowledge when it comes to the Christian faith and through that God has given her an understanding on how to apply Christian and Biblical truth through the tools of psychology to bring healing and restoration. Her books have been a great guide and inspiration to me because of the deep knowledge of how healing happens while retaining the focus on helping the person come fully present to Jesus who is the source and means of all healing.

There is an unfortunate and common misunderstanding perpetrated in the church that if something isn't in the Bible then it shouldn't be used as a tool for understanding or living, whatever. Christians are foolishly selective on how they determine is something is Biblical and thus "ok" to apply to their lives. I know many Christians who disregard facts and tools of science (and psychology is a scientific tool) simply because they don't see those things in the bible or God using psychology as a means to diagnose, treat, and heal people. What they forget is that the psychology is the study of the mind and soul -- the Bible very often talks about our minds and souls and the relationship between them, and how healing occurs. Thus, the Bible is actually psychological as well.

I totally agree that the Bible is the source of authority for the Christian and has the final say on what we are to practice and believe. But we can foolishly apply the principle (is it Biblical and in the Bible) to our detriment. Leanne Payne, in all her works, does an excellent job of showing how the tools of psychology are present in the Bible and (if not) how they are not in conflict with Biblical means of healing. And she retains the focus throughout her works that healing and the means for healing and true living is knowing and continuing to know the incarnate and real person/God who is Jesus.
