I'm a professional writer and editor, and an insatiable reader and researcher. I've worked in the book industry for over fifteen years in various capacities, from bookstore salesperson to ordering to publishing. I did an Honours BA in Eng. Lit. with a concurrent major of Liberal Arts, then did an MA in Eng. Lit. too, because I enjoyed it. My areas of interest include (but most certainly are not limited to) Canadian literature, historical fiction, YA literature, alternative spirituality, biographies, music (particularly classical), and herbalism. I used to read a lot more F/SF than I currently do; I've become a lot more selective. My weaknesses include bricks-and-mortar and on-line bookstores both new and used, high-quality chocolate, and tea.
Favourite books that are reissued with new covers drive me mad, because I want to own the new covers too. And woe betide a publisher who changes a series design before the series is finished.
I have a wonderful husband who thinks the library he married is pretty nifty, and a young son who adores books and has annexed some of my children's books for himself. There are currently three cats in my household who like books too, mainly because it means you are sitting in one place and they can pile on top of you.
I've played the cello for over fourteen years, and picked up the fretless bass a couple of years ago, just to mess about with. I'm a cellist with a community orchestra and with an all-girl eclectic cover band (currently on hiatus, alas). Other hobbies include trying to figure out where to put new bookcases.
