Avid, ecclectic reader with a wide range of tastes in both English and French languages, with a weakness for Mystery-suspense books. Nothing gory or scary that would give me recurring nightmares, though. Contemporary Romance (and Period Romance) are also among my favourites. I am interested in France and U.K. History from Medieval times til... more »

I tried to read The Bonfire of the Vanities, there was something about Wolfe's style that I couldn't get into. It sounded like a good plot was forming, but for some reason I couldn't get into it. It could be just me. THanks for the suggestion.

    Hi,

Welcome to the Movie Lovers Group. Hope to see you as an active participant in the group; it's always great to hear from new voices. Just FYI, if your interested....last month's group movie was "Swing Kids” and this month's group movie is “your choice”. Please feel free to post your comments. We also have a recurring thread "Movies You've Watched During the Month". Please feel to post the movies you've seen on the small and big screen and your ratings.

    Have a wonderful day.

You recommended Year of the Fog and The Bonfire of the Vanities to me right? Well I just signed them out of the library and will be reading them when I finish me two books I am reading right now.

Hey Opus! Thanks for the friend request :-) I see that you have cats, from LibraryCin's previous posts. I have on as well. He is a medium hair, black and white tuxedo named Jamie. He's my love! Eventually my avatar will go back to a picture of him.

    Hi Opus,

I see we have a few friends in common. I'm not sure I understood the nature of you question. I'd be happy to be your friend, but I'm not sure what kind of help you need :-\ Send me a friend request :-)

Oh gee .... probably "Are you there Vodka, It's me Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler. It's her boi and hilarious, it had me in tears.

Next would be "Broken" by William Moyers Cope, his story of how he dealt with being addicted to drugs and alcohol. This book hits home as I have somebody close to me struggling with the same.

After that would probably be "My French Wh*re" by Gene Wilder (it wouldn't let me post that word), such a cute story. It is a quick read, I read it in like 3 hours or so. Made me cry at the end, I almost didn't want to continue to read it, too sad. But a good story.

The my all time favs are the vampire books. First the Anita Blake books by Laurell Hamilton, then the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by J R Ward.

I have not read either of these books, but eventually I imagine I will come across them and read them. I have heard good things about Iles.

I've still got some good friends who are veggies, so I use this cookbook quite often. My hubby does not like veggies of any sort. He tolerates them. We will be getting rescue cat #11 tomorrow from the shelter. They have to shave it (Persian) as it was terribly neglected by it's former owners. We haven't seen it yet, but my hubby has a standing order with the shelter. If they get a very hard to place cat they are to call us.

My all time favorite cookbook is The New Laurel's Kitchen Cookbook. It's been out of print for quite a few years, but it is still available online. It's a vegetarian cookbook from my veggie days, but the food is extremely good for any style of eating. I have so many cookbooks, I wouldn't know which other ones to recommend. of course one can never go wrong with a c.1955 Betty Crocker Cookbook. (the newer versions leave out so many of the good recipes)

Just got my little Ozzette (see orange cat in my current Avatar) back from the vet. She was spayed. I only have Sophia left to take in, but she isn't quite old enough. We have a 10 housecat household.

Yes, Pillars of the Earth was good but a bit too long! At some point I was going to put it down and revisit it but I hate not finishing something I have started. Your review was on point.
    Thanks

LOL! My guess as to why cats will sit on the newspaper or at the desk, is they want your attention and that is currently where your attention is. If they are right in front of what you are trying to look at, you'll see them instead! I'm trying to think of more to tell about Angel and Io. They took a really really long time before they tolerated each other. I had Io first, and he seemed o.k. - it seemed like he wanted to play and be friends, but Angel didn't want any of that! Angel had lived with another cat before, so I didn't think it would be such a big problem. I'm guessing that maybe the other cat had been a littermate, so by 8 years old (when I brought him home), he just had trouble adjusting to a different cat.

I noticed you found the Welcome and Introductions thread. Yeah, that was referring to the thread in the Canada group.

I'm so sorry about your most recent boy with renal failure. My ex and I had an 18 year old kitty who was diagnosed with CRF. She only made it one more week after she was diagnosed. It's soo tough....

You probably read most of my profile with info about my cats, so what can I add...? I guess I should change Io's age - he is now 6, just had a birthday (we think) around the beginning of Feb. He's such a cutie! I'll eventually get back to posting pics of the cats. Maybe I'll alternate between my cruise pics and cat pics - I've been doing the cruise pics for a while now. Angel will be 10 soon, and often tries to curl up with me when I'm on the computer, so sometimes it's tricky to type! He was here a bit earlier, but currently my lap and my hands are free! :-)

Hi! For the moment, I'm here in an "official" capacity to welcome you to the Canada group! I'm glad you joined. So, welcome to the group! There is a Welcome and Introductions thread if you'd like to introduce yourself. We recently did a group read of Through Black Spruce, so if you've read it, feel free to post your comments. We've also got a thread going if you'd like to post reviews of any Canadian books you read. And lots more! So, welcome to the group - hope you enjoy!

And I'll be back later (after I've caught up with my groups!) to tell you about my "boys". :-)

Hi! I have to admit, I've only been writing reviews consistently since maybe last fall. A few more sporadically throughout last year, though. If you are able to sort by date on my shelf (not sure if you can do that...?), my most recent ones will have reviews and star ratings. The others would all be too long ago for me to accurately rate most of them, and definitely too long ago for a review. Sorry about that!

Thanks for the friend invite. Do you have cats yourself now? Tell me about them? I love to hear about people pets, especially cats! I see you're in Toronto. Do you know about the Canada group? I'm a co-admin over there, so I'll send you an invite (though you don't have to join if you don't want to). It's not always active, but it seems to come and go in spurts. ttyl!

I haven't read the Brass Verdict, it isn't even on my pile to read, I guess I shall have to look around for it. Right now I am reading City of Bones by Connelly and from what I have read so far, it is excellent. I really like his style. I also enjoy read books by Brian McGrory, he is not quite as good as Connelly or even James Patterson, but still a good read. He writes from the perspective an investigative reporter. His novels are: The Incumbent (on my to read pile), The Nominee (see my group for a review, Tony Peters' Books), and Deadline (on my to read pile).
