In possession of an Asian Studies degree, working towards another in Archaeology, dabbling in astronomy and not sure where exactly I am going. A skeptic at heart but a sucker for ancient mythology. My writing is lost and stuck in a rut. I could really use a creative kick in the butt. A passion for all things mah jongg, one bag packing, daibutsu,... more »

Fascinating world(s), and full of the usual DWJ wonder!

Lots of great information and case studies to put things into perspective. A few things were just glossed over, and I felt it need a bit more explanation. However, overall good.

Now those are some believable vampires! A great story with Robin McKinley details.

Really loved this book. Brought me back to the first times I read Hero and the Crown and Beauty - the styling was beautiful. A great read!

Also ... She's covered in BEEEEES!

  • The Pinhoe Egg: A Chrestomanci Book
    • Rated 5 stars

If you are into the DWJ's Chrestomanci series, The Pinhoe Egg is an excellent new addition to the family! The Pinhoe Egg was a great read! I really enjoyed reading about the members of the Chrestomanci castle, as well as the families in the country side around the castle. After reading Magicians of Caprona, Witch Week, and Conrad's Fate, it was nice to get back to the present day, to the castle, and see how Cat is getting along, discovering himself. I could barely put the book down. Definitely worth a read, and don't forget to check out the rest of the Chrestomanci series, as well as other DWJ titles!

    This books includes:
    Conrad's Fate
    The Pinhoe Egg

I've already read these two stories, but I'm back for seconds. Love Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci Series.

Overall this guide was helpful, but I really could have used a LOT more practice. There is the edition of the CD (that is Windows only) and the online course. You would think that there would be enough practice, but apparently just not enough for me.

It also would have helped if the quantitative section went into more review rather than just assume that you have been doing math in the past six years.

Small quibbles, really. But it was useful in judging my progress and how I would do on the actual exam.

  • Tattoo History: A Source Book

I only read the section dealing with tattoos in Japan, and while there is lots of history, it is very glossed over. To be honest, I expected more, and it would have been nice if there was something in it about Ainu history of tattooing.

The pictures are absolutely lovely! I loved some of the stories, but they are quite plain as far as language goes. That's okay considering it is a children's book.

Cute! Impractical, but it's a Yaoi Novel, so I guess I shouldn't be expecting that anyway. But very cute.
