Onnaday

Onnaday

I began book collecting in 1996. The majority of my collection consists of African American Authors, or books about African Americans. I prefer hardback, first editions and I attend book signings/readings. Someday I hope to publish my own book.

Thank you for the great note and for joining us here in our little Shelfari world. !! We've had a couple of books since Far From the Tree. Better Than I Know Myself came out in 2004 and Gotta Keep on Tryin' the sequel to Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made was released last year...so we've been busy!

In case you're interested, we have a DeBerry & Grant group here on Shelfari and in addition to checking us out here, and on our website, we blog regularly and are also on Myspace, Facebook and Twitter--all of which is very nearly another full time job! We even have YouTube videos and will be making another one next week in the new Simon & Schuster studio! Please visit our Tours page on the website and come out and see us if we're coming to your city.
    Again, thanks & happy 2009!

Thanks, Onnaday. I just signed with the oldest literary agency in NY for ALBERTVILLE, so I hope next year will open a few more doors for me.

Dear Onnaday: As an author who published his first book in April, I wish you the best in your pursuit of your own novel. Based on what you said in your profile, I think you might like my novel ALBERTVILLE. It is not published yet, but I have just signed with a NY literary agency so have high hopes that it will be. The story revolves around a young black woman Alma Jesse Westcott, who grew up in the segregated Alabama of the 1940s and 50s. She ends up joining the State Department and being assigned to the Congo in 1960 just after that nation gains its independence from Belgium. The novel is a unique and [powerful juxtaposition of what was going on in the US wiith the struggles of the civil rights movement with the Cold War foreign policy of the US in places like the Congo. In the meantime, maybe you'll check out my debut HUNTING THE KING. There is a wonderful book trailer on You Tube well worth the watching if you have the chance. Peter
