I have been reading since my childhood quite a lot but my reading in early part of life was limited to only some novel or autobiographies which were primarily from Bengali literature (translated in Hindi) or literature directly from Hindi literature.
If I can remember rightly the first book that I read was autobiography of Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Gandhi (famously known as Frontier Gandhi) when I was in 4t ot fifth standard. In the same year I read autobiography of Balraj Sahni’s (The great veteran Hindi movie actor) autobiography "Yaadein" and the autobiography of J L Nehru.
Some really good stuff from Sharatchandra that I read was like "Shrikant", "Devdas",
"Charitraheen".
Then “Godan”; “Nirmla” by Premchand.
The great and common thing which has been integral part of all the Sharatchandra’s novels is the highest place he has given to all the woman characters in his novels. The way he has portrayed that how great character any woman carries with herself is really- really impressive.
I do not think the way he has done this; any author would have been able to do it.
Then "Ek Aware ki Diary"(I am still in search of the name of the auothor of this book..I think it was probably a work of Maxim Gorky) by some Russian novelist.
The some Grisham’s novels, then some James Hadley Chase and Sherlock Holmes.
Reading is something that never ends and I would be very happy and thankful if anyone anytime can suggest some good book….
