    hi oel!

There will be an informal discussion (but with powerpoint presentation courtesy of sumthinblue) of "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova, on 13 September 2008, Saturday. Time will probably depend on when everyone has finished browsing at the Manila International Bookfair, but venue will be Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf - MOA (by request).

... kwentuhan lang. fave book kasi namin nila sumthinblue and cecille ngayon itong book na ito. details at http://www.shelfari.com/groups/12439/discussions/65122/(unofficial)-book-discussion-in-September

Well, I can see why it is controversial. But one really has to look at it as a parable, not bible truth. But some parts are really moving. Some parts are good illustrations of truth.

Oel! I just finished The Shack. I need somebody with whom I can talk about it! OMG! It's a great read! As you can see from the number of exclamation points in this note, I am excited about it.

in the bank where i used to work, the library is adjacent to our department and the librarian always bought the latest on ludlum. i did not realize i was reading a bestseller until the movie about bourne with matt damon became a world wide hit. i became a fan of matt damon as well as ludlum. i took a look at ludlum's list of work and i realized i have read most of them back in the 80's & 90's. i used to just borrow them but now i buy them one by one.

I saw that you just finished a Bill Hybels book. So did i - a different one, though. We have just finished reading "Just Walk Across the Room" -- on evangelism! I think you'd really like it - if you haven't already read it !! You have such good suggestions - I'm always anxious to see what you've read!

We leave soon (6-29) for a missions trip to the mountains of Peru - hope you'll pray for us -- we are taking 2 granddaughters with us - and doing ministry in the highest of the Andes mountains - with kids and adults (on interpersonal relationships and Christians and domestic violence). So you won't be hearing from me for a while!

Hi Oel!! I have a rather odd request! can you send me a few simple Filipino words - like the usual greeting ("hello" in english) or thank you or good-bye. I do volunteer work at a center that serves seamen from some of the large ships and many of the crew are from the Philippines. I would love to be able to say even just one word in their language -- or attempt it so that they would have a good laugh! I don't know if there are different dialects in the various areas/islands. but if there is a more universal language, that would be the one I would prefer. Thanks.

we are finally getting some warm weather -- just in time for us to go to Peru to the mountains (where it is winter!) what's wrong with that idea?? hope we will find ways to be warm! Pray for us during 6-29 through 7-16, as we are also taking two of our grandchildren - and we will be doing ministry to several very remote villages (adults - "interpersonal relationship", "family violenc" and children "wordless" craft using colored beads to teach the Gospel story. should be quite an adventure!

Did you read Max Lucado's "3:16"? it was ok - but to me it was not one of his best. not really sure why i was disappointed. would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Hope you are still enjoying the nice weather! We are learning to try some new ways to express our faith -- been reading the book "Just Walk Across the Room" by Bill Hybels -- very exciting ideas about evangelism and outreach! May God continue to bless you! Linda L.

Hi Oel. Have you read the exchanges slash debates about The Shack? Quite interesting. As for me, I still haven't found a copy, and given my TBR list, I'm in no rush to find one. :)

Hi Oel - was neat to see your "new" picture! every time i look at your books you've read - i am so surprised at how many i either have read or at least have on my bookshelf at home. either we have the same taste or we belong to the same book club! I'm still "pushing" The Shack on all my friends! Lately i've been working on a bunch of books on domestic violence, so i won't see those on your list anytime soon, i'm sure! thanks for your testimony -- i can see how God continues to bless you and draw you to Himself! just met a filipino woman who lives in Philadelphia and works with my husband - am learning a lot about your country through her. this is such a neat way to be able to pray for people all around the world!!

Hi Oel. Not really a Bryson fan. The only book I've read was his "Brief History of Nearly Everything". Baka di rin ako makarelate sa "Thunderbolt" kid. Baka mom ko pa... :)

    Oel,
Oy, ang cute naman ng picture mo. Gusto ko tuloy kalkalin yong baul namin sa probinsya, but the last tiime I did. I found some of my pictures in my birthday suit, ay baka ma censored dine. I saw your latest Godfather book, my office mate has that one, and I will wait until she throw it away in the office garbage, I'll pick it up! Hilary Clinton used to say when she was the first lady, "it takes a village to raise a child" quoting from an African proverb. Now it will take a miracke for her to defeat Obama. Ay sori, politics na ito. Enjoy the summer there, soon it will be our turn.
