Camie Joy

Oh my word, I am quite sure nothing about myself fits into a box of any kind. I could say the obvious, like: I love reading! Who doesn't on this site?! I have an extensive collection of books, especially children's books. I also do a lot of writing and have things published, but don't like anyone I know to read what I write. I'm also passionate... more »

    The Rainbow

    ~Christina Rossetti

    Boats sail on the rivers,
    And ships sail on the seas;
    But clouds that sail across the sky
    Are prettier than these.

    There are bridges on the rivers,
    As pretty as you please;
    But the bow that bridges heaven,
    And overtops the trees,
    And builds a road from earth to sky,
    Is prettier far than these.

    I liked Marilyn in Some Like it Hot, but she was never my favorite. The tabloids talked about her as if she was washed up at 36 (she died when she was 36?) but look at all of the actresses today that are over 35 and still working. However, many of these actors, for instance, Julia Roberts, did not base their careers on being bombshells. I liked Judy Holliday. Have you ever seen her in a movie? She was in a funny movie called Born Yesterday. I think she was working around the same time as Marilyn.

    Hi again. I like pretty much all the Austen adaptations I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them :-) I love the Pride & Prejudice adaptations, both the BBC mini-series version and the recent movie with Keira Knightley. I also love the recent Northanger Abbey adaptation which aired on PBS this past winter - did you see it? I liked the new Persuasion that was also shown this past winter on PBS, but I think the version with Amanda Root and Ciarin Hinds is best. The only Austen movies I don't love (although I do like them) are the Kate Beckinsale version of Emma, and both of the versions of Mansfield Park I've seen.

    In general, I prefer movie adaptations that stick as close to the book as possible, but so long as the acting is good and the essence of a novel is captured I can usually still enjoy movies based on books even if significant changes are made.

    Hi Camiei,
    Thanks for the invite. Have to admit an anti-myspace reaction, but I do ask members to send a note with their invite. Is it my shelf, fabulous personality or killer one-liners that prompted your request? lol

    I did not know that Marylin Monroe wrote a book. That looks interesting. Do you think she wrote it or do you think that she had a ghost writer. I will try to find that one. So many books that I want to read are not available at our libraries.

    Yes, I enjoy writing poetry and indeed did write "My Steel Toes" which was about a hasty, ill-planned cross-country bus trip from South Carolina to California and back a few years ago. And wow I just noiced that you did join Shelfari- so welcome aboard! I have a bunch of Shelfari friends so if you want you can go to my page and hit on 'friends'- it will show the friends avatars and screen names- maybe you can find some there to invite to be friends with you, too- good luck!
