I'm a 23-year-old Sociology major and an avid but picky reader. I like science-fiction and fantasy, but also humor, satire and (on a far lesser extent) essays and editorials. I also read a lot of non-fiction books, mostly related to my major or simply inspirational works that have been recommended by others. On the other hand, I tend to shy away... more »

Lovely! Just when I thought the Pratchett novels had lots their flavor.

I enjoyed this book mainly for the insight it offers into different kinds of trauma and how a traumatic experience can perpetuate itself from generation to generation.

However, I believe that - like many other books of its kind - this one, too, suffers from a strong bias, downplaying the usefulness of conventional methods of therapy and failing to cite sufficient third-party evidence to support some of its claims. An example that comes to mind is how Dr. Ruppert claims that, "in his experience", Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) results exclusively from sexual abuse, which is - as many other therapists can attest - absolutely *not* a general rule.

This book - more than anything, up to and including Pyongyang's nuclear "arsenal" - is proof that the world needs to do something about North Korea - the sooner, the better. A rattling tale that puts many things in a new and horrifying perspective.

I was expecting a witty, clever book. The premise was certainly interesting enough... but the only thing this book managed to accomplish was parade an endless cohort of insufferable characters that I honestly can't find anything redeeming about. If any of the gods featured in GBB were real, they'd probably sue for slander. Awful, awful read.

Hands-down the worst historical romance book I ever read. Ever.

It starts off promising. Very promising. But then, once you're past the introduction and on to the actual guide part, it gets oh so boring. Also, the much-toted 'cure' at the end? Spoiler alert -- it's bollocks. If one needs to actually get an incurable disease in order to be 'cured' of hypochondria, I call horse manure.

Best one in a while. That's the Pratchett I remember.

Plenty of useful information in this book, if a bit disorganized.

Reading this one turned into a massive borefest about halfway through. "This wasn't a movie, after all, where everything was guaranteed to workout OK in the end.", wrote the author, and that made me roll my eyes even more than the cliché bad guy with improbable motives and the endless parade of bland, unidimensional characters. A disappointment after having read Sussman's other novel, 'The Labyrinth of Osiris'.

A true classic that helped me both personally and professionally. Loved it.
