The History Non-Fiction Group is voting for the Oct-Dec Quarterly Group read. We've had several interesting books nominated. Please take a look and vote if you'd like to join in.
Just in case you’re not our friend on Facebook, Twitter or on our mailing list, we wanted you know that “It's Official-Uptown Has Landed” and should be on the shelves at bookstores near you! We say should, because, well, lets just say, sometimes they don't make it out of the stockroom in time for their big debut. This is where we need your help. We’ve heard from many friends & readers that they can't find Uptown in their local bookstore. Then we discovered that it's only available by order in most "non-urban" chains (We know exactly what THAT means. Sad, but true, segregation is alive and well in the book store industry.) If you go to look for Uptown and it's not where it should be, first, please ask a sales associate to find it for you. And if they tell you they don't have it, be sure to let us know (even if they offer to order it for you, which is fine)! We need to know the store name and address so we can report it to our publisher. They are looking closely at early sales numbers (a lot like that first weekend at the box office for movies), but if the books aren't out they can't be purchased, so we need to be on top of this! So consider yourselves deputized as the Uptown Patrol! A book launch is still both exciting and scary, but we're strapped in for the ride. We thank you for continuing to take the ride with us and we look forward to your comments about Uptown. “Prepare for a steamy, provocative, sexy, turbulent read…” "Uptown has all the ingredients that offer ardent readers a satisfying read: relatable characters we either love, or love to hate; contemporary issues that are pertinent to those of us who care about our people and our heritage; and a strong believable plot infused with passionate conflict---ALL set in Harlem, a place which still holds the aroma of Langston Hughes' dreams: "What happens to a Dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun . . . or does it explode?"---Angela Reid, President of Imani Literary Group "...smart and compelling. ...a novel that is both relevant and entertaining." -Publishers' Weekly "We women battle so much in life, and at times, we give our pasts a home in our present rendering our futures bleak with no room for sunshine. DeBerry and Grant crafted a story that speaks true to the bondage women refuse to let go...Uptown captures its readers in the chaos of family secrets, taking them on a rugged emotional course full of passion and suspense. A provocative read with a lesson on forgiveness, and the beautiful unfolding of self-discovery."-SistahFriend Book Club As always, thank you for your friendship and support.V&Dhttp://www.amazon.com/Uptown-Novel-Virginia-DeBerry/dp/1439137765/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266081476&sr=1-4
