Hi,
I am a historical researcher interested in the British Isles, mainly Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I am especially interested in the Knights Templar and the role they played in Scottish history. I do family and local history research for families and an occasional author. I have been an avid romance/historical fiction reader for over 40... more »

    Hi Fraoch,
I share your interest in Scotland and historical studies. I just completed an MA in history. The Knights Templar is an interesting topic. Have you read the DaVinci Code? It is not a historical romance, but it is interesting and does go into some detail about the Knights and their history.
If you haven't read Diana Gabeldon's "Outlander" series you might want to look into it. It has nothing to do with the Knights, but this series is well researched for historical accuracy; it's based in the highlands around 1745, and it's a romance that grabbs you (in my opinion). Rich character development. I highly recommend this if you have time to really curl up with a good book(s).
If you're interested in finding "Young People's" books, there's a new author - Julie Hahnke. She's written two books so far. Each is the first in a series. Both are based in Scotland, have a paranormal element to them, and are written for middle school aged kids. Julie is a competative bagpiper and a graduate from Dartmoth. She does a lot of research into her subject before she puts her hands on a keyboard to write. The first book is "Through the Eyes of a Raptor" and the second is "Grey Ghost". She has a blog where you can find out more about her and her books.

Hii - I just checked under Barbara Erskine and found that she's the author a used bookstore owner suggested a few years ago when I was reading some time travel and reincarnation novels, but I mixed up the name and was looking under the wrong one! Thanks - Lady of Hay is the name of the book recommended then and I just found it. Now it's on my TBR list. Then I had trouble finding out who suggested BErskine to me!! Go figure. I appreciate the suggestion and I'm sure I'll find the book - probably love her writing.

Kathleen McGowan wrote a compelling book, but the Expected one seems a bit too disconnected. The sequel we are expecting is not yet out, I think.
It must be cool to be a historical ressercher... You sure have a very interesting job.

Hi - After your posting re the new trend toward vampires, I browsed through your shelf (hope that's okay). You've said you're interested in Scottish, etc. romances - have you ever tried Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series? They are some of my favorites, very large thick books (about the size of Pillars of the Earth) and involve time travel, Scottish and American history, wonderful characters, and a fall-in-love-with hero. There are six or so in that series now, but my favorites were the first four or five - and I'm hoping #7 will be worth the wait. I'm sure it's not easy for an author to keep putting out wonderful books - of that size, especially. Maybe you've tried the series and for one reason or another didn't care for it?

Hi, just stopping in to share my exciting news. I'm the new curator for Harlequin Historical MySpace page.

I will be doing interviews with authors and editors at different times. Plus, I list when special deals are being offered and who knows, I contest or two might be arranged.

I hope you will come check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi, I have a huge library book sale coming up in my town and I'm looking for any suggestion on which authors or books I should be on the lookout for. Last year I got slightly over 250 books for $30. So if you can think of any suggestions, please let me know!

I found Iain Ross's Woman by Emilie Richards on a website and I picked it for a summer reading challenge. I can't find it yet, and have never read anything by that author. Could you tell me what you remember about it, and maybe what you know of the author? I like romance, but not graphic or explicit books. (if you know what I mean.) Any help you could provide would be appreciated, as you are 1 of 2 people on Shelfari who have that book on your list. thank you. CPQ
