I am so unphotogenic, it's hard to find one with my eyes open...or one that I don't look like I'm stoned or drunk! :) Blink was interesting. I am borrowing if from my sister in law from Minneapolis....we don't see her again until summer, so if you want to borrow it you can. In places it beomes almost textbook "ish" but overall it was interesting.
Hi Kyla Florida was crazy. I mean I was busy unpacking and cleaning, etc for my sister-in-law and brother-in-law in their new house. But it was great to get away! I really like Whistling in the Dark. I thought it was imaginative--or rather the young girl who's perspective was written from had an imaginative streak. It was funny in parts and just kind of heartwarming. Nothing deep or heavy. Just a pleasant book! I'm just starting Water for Elephants! I like it so far. See you soon. Love Valerie
I am about halfway through the Time Travelers Wife....a very interesting book - it is like nothing I have ever read before! I have heard they are going to make a movie......Rachel McAdams - what else has she starred in? I can't place a face to the name.
Hi Kyla. Yeah, the Time Traveler's Wife looked very good when I read the back of the book. I think I might like that one.
You know, I really didn't like Lovely Bones. I think I expected something else out of it. I'm not sure. Part of it, seriously, was that I read it so soon after the one book club meeting and had to wait so long for the next meeting. I couldn't remember anything in it. Plus, I started reading in the evening in bed and I was on drugs (to sleep and for pain--winning COMBO!) and so I think I was half out of it at the time and then I'd fall asleep. The next night I'd go back to it and I'd have to go back a page or so to figure out what the heck was going on.
I haven't started this months book yet. I did go buy it though. I'm going to wait til closer to the next meeting to get it read.
I had a nice Fourth. How about you? I'm going to gone from the 9th to the 16th because I'll be in Florida helping my sister-in-law unpack/paint/decorate, etc in their new house. So much to take care of before I leave. Better kick it into gear! ha Hope to see everyone again before book club meets--you know, for drinks or lunch or dinner or a movie or whatever. Love Valerie
Hi Kyla (& everyone!) I like mysteries too. I recently read Ladykiller by Lisa Scottoline. The writing is probably not as good as some of the other books we've read, but I liked it. It was a clean, light mystery. (I'm not into a lot of sex or gore or profanity). I found out after I read it that the characters were in several other of Scottoline's books, so I will probably go back and read those. You can go to www.scottoline.com to check out her books. I haven't found anything yet with the twists of endings like Jodi Picoult's books. If you have any suggestions for good, engaging mysteries I would love to hear them. So far I've only found simple, light mysteries. I see you have read some James Patterson. How are those books? I don't have a lot of time to spend on this site, but I love it. Thanks! Kathi
Hi - I am just getting through The Secret Life of Bees yet. I was finishing Enrique's Journey (a good book, but not a quick/easy read) and didn't get into "Bees" until about a week ago. I had read this before a couple years ago but really needed to re-read it before we discuss is at book club. Not sure when I'll get to Change of Heart, hopefully soon. Is that a good one for our book club? See you Monday night. I look so forward to those Monday "Book Club" night! Have a great weekend. Kath
