    Hi BLD/ That's a big question...a lot of my students, and i have at least 50 per semester, are struggling to pass the TOEFL as a requirement to enter credit courses, so they are frustrated with the learning process and wish we would invent a pill to re-activate the hypothetical 'language-learning centre" in the brain!

    When they realise that they need years of exposure to good English usage , and that they have to immerse themselves in it, a glazed look comes over them. I do what I can to lessen their suffering.

    There is nothing unique about English: every language has its idioms and idiosyncrasies. Maybe the one thing that would help is a regularised spelling system!
