Reading is my passion. The books listed here are mostly series, most of which I own. I have many others, but couldn't find them on the site to put on my shelf. I have thousands of books.
Not every book on my shelf is recommended to others. Some I read and didn't like, or found they were not that appropriate so I didn't buy a copy. Ask me... more »

Linda, have you read Breaking Dawn yet? I'm curious what you thought of it. I decided living forever sounded boring after a few decades! Let me know your thoughts (if you've read it or plan to read it)

After your note, I updated my review. :-) I think I'm just stingy with my ratings, it has to be really, really good for me to give it a 4 or a 5 star. I think all Harry Potters are really good, but I liked some better than others. Which were your favorites? I found a couple of the Harry Potter books lacking some of the depth I found in others, but still very good books. Now you got me thinking, it's time to read them again! :-)

As much as I like shelfari, it has a flawed rating system. It needs a few more options between not liking a book and and loving it. And yes, I am not a huge Harry Potter fan.

Thanks for your suggestion. i will try out Shannon Hale next time i go to the library.

I agree about Bella. Someitmes she seems mature, and sometimes she is such a typical teenager. She hides things from her parents that she has no need to hide, she thinks everyone is noticing what she wears, says, feels. she in essence says things like, "I knew i shouldn't (go into the woods alone, date Edward, and on and on) but i wanted to, so I did." I mean, if you know you shouldn't do something, why do it? Geesh! I get impatient with her shortcomings. And yet, her flaws are what make her human and make others identify with her.

I really like Edward and admire the Cullens for their efforts to be civilized. But I really don't see what he sees in Bella. I mean. so what if she smells good? right?

I have yet to read Breaking Dawn as well. I have to wait until my sister in law can part with it. She LOVED it! She said that the ending is nothing like she expected. She keeps rereading parts of it. I think the series is okay, but I think Bella is too whiny and annoying. Which leads me to your next question...I LOVE the books by Shannon Hale. I would start with Goose Girl if you are going to read one. It's a short little series, but I enjoyed it. I think Hale creates stronger women characters than, say Meyer. I think that is what attracts me to them.

There has been a trend lately to write sequels to novels published long ago! I remember Scarlett was written a decade or so ago as a sequel to Gone with the Wind (it wasn't very good). Joan Aiken has written several Austen sequels. An author with the last name of Tennant has done several 'sequels' as well. It's just a fun way of guessing what characters from a favorite novel might end up doing if the story were continued!

I agree with you that Bella made some dumb choices, but she's a teenager dealing with a very strong force (sort of like peer pressure). We did one of the books for book club here - I think the 1st one- and it was interesting how we felt about the characters.
I don't see how the series will resolve, well I do, but I don't know if I will like it so have mixed feelings about it.

Yes, Bella has definitely made some stupid decisions. Especially in the 2nd book, but that was because she could "hear" Edward's "voice". I think by the end of the third book Bella is starting to grow up and make better, not so selfish, decisions. I'm still wondering what the problems will be in the 4th book. My theory is that there will be problems with Tanya and her family. Laurent said he was doing a favor for "her", I'm not so sure that meant Victoria.

I tried to put a few more of the books I own and have read on last night. I haven't figured out how to remove a book I put on accidentally let alone categorize what I have on there. I have a ton of books I've read over the years, but I doubt I will ever be able to remember more than a few. I will try when I have time to post them...I too mostly like fiction but I really get into the who-dunit mysteries and drama stuff. I like a lot of things really, it just depends on what I pick up. I read a lot by author just because if I find one that is "clean" I tend to stick with them til I find another one. I've read a lot of the wizard and dragon stuff that Hunter likes, he recommends a lot of his favorites to me and I enjoy them. They are on a little lower reading level, young adult stuff, but they like it when I read stuff they've read because they love to talk about it. I haven't put any of those on my list yet. I'd have to say, the Twilight series has been one of my favorite and on church side fiction stuff my favorite has been the Great and Terrible series!!

So, does that mean you're not going to read the fourth one when it comes out in August? I dreamed about the characters too, but, I do like them. I found the characters easy to get involved with, if that makes any sense. I also like the way different gospel principles are brought up...morality, salvation(Edward's worry about the state of Bella's soul).

Hi Linda. I've read all of them(so far). I liked what you said, that "it sucked [you] right in." ha, ha. I enjoyed the books and couldn't put them down. Veray has read and reread the Twilight books and is going to choose one for book club next year. What did you like about the books? What didn't you like?
Stephenie Meyer has a new book coming out on the 6th of May, and it's not about vampires. It's called "The Host", it's about an alien race coming and occupying the human bodies of Earth. (Again with the non-human thing).

Hey Aunt Linda!! I would have never guessed that you were so into the science fiction type stuff (correct me if I'm wrong!) I saw a few titles that I've read, but not too many. Of coure, I have such a bad memory, I can't remember which books I've read let alone what they are about!! Regardless, I'd read all day and forget to eat if I could. Someday maybe! Love you. Holly
