Can't review this YA fantasy because I wrote it, but it's received two 5-star reviews on Amazon.

I found this book well written, an entertaining and sometimes humorous account of small town Ireland in the sixties. Though I found the premise disturbing, Francie's story compelled me to keep reading right to the end. The author's ability to enter the mind of a disturbed young man so realistically fascinated me.

This sweet little romance set in the time of the 19th century Irish famine provides a peek at the hard life of a dauntless people. A troubled young boy who leaves Ireland returns as a man to find love with a spirited woman who thought she'd never love again after her husband hanged after stealing food to feed his family. I enjoyed escaping into the well-described Irish countryside and meeting the people of Ballycashel.

Reading this magical tale about love overcoming tragedy was sometimes sad but always a pleasure. I found the descriptions of life in a small southern town lovely, and the characters so vivid I expected to be invited in for tea.
