I had to read this for a class and never suspected that I would like it as much as I did. Heinlein's social commentary is really well-done in the scope of the novel, I don't agree with everything he has to say here, but he makes a lot of sense within the context of a very enjoyable and smart read.

This book is indescribably good. It was recommended to me by a teacher I respect tremendously because it is the Arthur book that is the most tuned in to the intangible elements of the story; it is human and readable. I've read this cover to cover twice (it's quite an undertaking, it's very long and the sub-plots are a little dizzying at times, and are occasionally somewhat obtrusive and slow-moving, but regardless it's worth reading in full at least once so that you have all of that background information) and refer to certain sections regularly. My copy is really marked up, which means a lot in my library.

This book is so in tune with the precocious main character that it's almost frightening. Even when this book is deeply sad it is somewhat joyful in its perspective, it is so fresh and honest, the world as seen through the eyes of a highly gifted and eccentric child who has been allowed to be himself. This is an amazing book. There are so many innovative elements that are really very effective and moving.

This book was one that I randomly chose off of a shelf in a Borders outlet somewhere and have read cover to cover probably at least a dozen times. There is something (actually there are dozens of things) in this that resonate with me. The round-robin perspective style is highly effective and the characters are interesting to say the least. I've never been able to pinpoint what exactly draws me to this one, but I don't generally re-read books like I do this one.
