*Kitkat*

hello my name's Catherine aka Kitkat. I'm a senior in high school and I adore reading. I generally read fiction I guess, but I'm trying to expand myself to different things so I'm open to anything. I love getting recommendations to good books so if anyone has a good word on a book I'll try it.
I love to talk so anyone who wants to discuss... more »

Hello! Yes, it has been a long time! I figured you were busy...that happens! I've gotten sucked into Facebook, and some of the games...it's amazing how long I can sit here and play, lol! I do chat a lot on there, as I have made some wonderful new friends, from all over the world...Scotland, Iceland, Finland, Australia, Ireland...it's pretty much my social life. All of my real life friends work, or live too far away to visit with, so I keep in touch with them on there too.
I have been reading a lot too, of course. I met an author on here, and read his book...it was fantastic! I'm impatiently awaiting the next one now...I put in a purchase request at my local library, and I hope they get it. I can't afford to buy it myself...we are suffering financially just like so many others. But we still have our house, so I do count my blessings!
I guess I should check out your shelf to see what you've been reading...I should also update my shelf, as I've been lazy about that!
What year are you in in high school? It's so much harder now than when I was in school...all school is, I think. I'm always amazed at what my 2nd grader is learning...they are doing fractions, volume, area, perimeter and multiplication in math already, and I had to help him do a report on Jaguars. I KNOW we didn't do those things in second grade!
Did you ever read "Looking Glass Wars?" I'm looking for the newest book in that series...I haven't seen it at our library yet, darn it! I hate it when I read a book that's the first in a series, and then they don't get the next one in! I know they can't buy every book, but they should try to get all of a series, I think. :)
Okay, off to do laundry. I'm glad to see you back here! :)

    Hello again!
How is everything going? I was just roaming around here, and thought I'd drop in and say hi. I noticed one of the books you plan to read, Living Dead Girl, and it sounded interesting, so I added it to my "plan to read" list too. I'll have to do an interlibrary loan, as it isn't at any of our local libraries. I'm curious to see what you think of it...could you let me know when you've finished it? I'd appreciate it.
Are you all ready for Christmas? I'm not...I still need to do my Christmas cards and all my shopping! Ugh...

Write when you can, okay? I know you must be busy, but perhaps you'll have time during Christmas break. ;)

Well, Halloween was fun, and the weather was fantastic. Hunter didn't have to wear a coat over his costume. I always hated that...it ruins the effect of the costume.
I'm doing okay...I had to have 2 root canals on the same tooth, and now have to get a crown. (Thank goodness we have really good dental insurance, but I may have used up my "allowable" expenses already this year, and may have to pay full price for the crown! $900 +...YIKES!)
I've been reading quite a few young adult books lately. I just managed to put them on my shelf today. Next up is the new Pern novel, by Todd McCaffrey, and I'm getting the new Stephen King book from the library on Tuesday. I recently read "A child called It," which I found when I was looking around on here. It made me cry, but I'm going to read the next 2 that he wrote. It's amazing that someone could suffer like that, yet turn out to be such a positive human being. Look at how many criminals blame their behavior on being abused as a child...it's all in the choices you make. He chose to strive to be a better person than his parents were, and to try and help others. :)
How is school going? Are you looking forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks? I know Hunter is, lol.
Hope your weekend is going well...write when you can, okay?

Hi...it's my turn to apologize for not getting back to you! I know how easy it is to get distracted or sidetracked. I had an unusually busy week last week, and actually got to see 3 friends I hadn't seen in a long time, which was really wonderful. This weekend has been pretty lazy...I've either been reading or trying to watch the "Desperate Housewives" DVDs from the library. I never watched it before, but wanted to check it out, so I did...I'm on season 3 now, and I love it! :) I have 3 new books to pick up at the library on Tuesday...I have to try to not get any more, because my stack of books stays the same, lol!
I've loved reading since I was very small, so I'm glad my son is the same way. I don't know why so many people are so discouraged by reading...it really helps if your family encourages you, or if you have others in your family who read. I think too many people just don't bother with it at all any more. My brother's wife taught kindergarden, (before she had kids,) and she was so shocked on her first day of teaching to find out that there were some kids who actually didn't know what a book was! She had given them a little free time to read a book, and she told them to go pick one out, but 3 kids didn't move. They had never seen a book, so they didn't know what she was talking about. Can you believe that? I was absolutely stunned. How is that possible? No wonder so many kids have trouble reading these days. I volunteer in my son's 2nd grade class, (and I did it last year, too,) and there are 10 kids in his class right now who can't read very well at all. I work with those kids on Mondays, and one of them is actually really getting into reading suddenly. I think it's because she is really good friends with my son, and he must have told her that he reads to me all the time. I met her mom last week, and she told me that her daughter is reading to her all the time now! :) Yay!
Why are you the class crazy? I've always been crazy, and my friends are all crazy too, lol. Why be "normal?" It's boring! :)
You mentioned that reading out loud gives you added practice in acting; are you interested in acting? I really wanted to be an actress, but obviously that never happened. I loved drama class...I could get up in front of people and do a bit from a play with no problem, because I wasn't me, I was somebody else. But when I had to give a speech in English...I was so nervous! That's because it was just me. Odd, yes?
You seem awfully mature for your age, and I love your attitude about having an open mind. So many people are close-minded, and don't want to know anyone or anything different from themselves. I like to learn about different ways of thinking and different cultures, mostly from talking to people from other places, or reading really good stories that take place elsewhere. I don't really sit down and read books about different places. I prefer fiction, but will occasionally read a non-fiction book.
I haven't heard of either of the authors you mentioned, but I will have to look them up. I like to go to Fantastic Fiction and look up authors and books. I can find out if and when my favorite authors have any new books coming out. That way I can put them on hold at the library, usually about 2 months before they come out, so I can get one of the first copies to read.
Okay, that's enough for now...I have to give Hunter a bath and get him ready for bed, and do some dishes...the usual "mom" stuff. I hope your weekend was less frustrating than last weekend...no dilemmas, hopefully...and I hope you have a good week. Write when you can...I'm patient, lol! :D

If you want to get a better review on "history" you should star with The Constant Princess, then read Tho Other Boleyn Girl and then The Boleyn Inheritance. They are not sequels, for they are different stories, but timewise, that is the order the go. I really enjoyed them. At this moment I am reading The Queen's Fool.
