I decided to view them as two totally different stories....that way I could enjoy them both in their own way. I think that in the movie, the strangeness was overdriven compared to DWJ's story. I do love the book more then the movie though. But I also love "Dark Lord of Derkholm" and "Year of the Griffin", those are just pure fun ;)
I always get weird looks when I say that DWJ is a better writer then JK Rowling, in the sense that Diana created a wider world then Rowling. :D

Diana Wynn Jones rocks ! :D How did you like Studio Ghibli's version of the story ? I have a soft spot for Miyazaki's films, but I feel that he made a completely different story than D.W. Jones.

I'll only accept your friendship request if stop drinking Starbucks coffee-it's awful corporate garbage ha-ha . You live in NYC-there's got to be a lot of local run delicious coffee stops. I know from personal experience in the Italian district-there's some excellent espresso. I'm bossy :)

You should watch "unbearable Lightness Of Being" it was a great adaptation of the book. It's one of my favorite movies-Plus it stars Juliette Binoche & Daniel Day Lewis, it's hard to go wrong with those 2.
