I lose... You win. I'm ready for a Stalin regime.... Robin hood may lead us into a "China" like hell.... Don't blame me!
I must pledge to devote myself to Barack.

I am just for less government and more control by the states. Then we can decide where we want to live, vote on issues in our own state. I want state's right back. Power to the individual states and not the big government (even when coming to abortion). I am actually FOR gay marriage, for the environment... to an extent, and animal rights. I am just worried this may perpetuate "laziness" and more hand-outs from loser American's. You are responsible... I am responsible... Don't make me pay for loser antics. My family works hard, don't punish me for that.

I'm worried about the "Fairness Doctrine" that seems like a form of muzzling free speech to me. A right we MUST defend VIGOROUSLY!! I am COMPLETELY against censorship. I hope the next four years surpass the grim state I am in right now.

I will say I LOVE MICHELLE and those two little beauties... I think she will make a wonderful First Lady. I am just really worried about our freedoms.

    XOXO... Are we still friends??

NPR has turned your mind to mush. I find it hard to believe Obama was living hand to mouth after attending Columbia and Harvard. Mrs. Obama went to Princeton and made $350,000 a year. They had one car, because Obama had a limo and driver!

I will admit I DID NOT vote FOR McCain... I voted against Obama. Both candidates in my book, were lousy. Come on.... You HAVE to admit Barack has NO experience to lead this country in these times. I would have bit my tongue and voted for Hilary if given the choice. (I just threw-up in my mouth a little)... It is true though. Hilary is WAY MORE qualified and I am scared what will happen in the next 4 years. Barack is an AWESOME orator and extremely charismatic... (so was Hitler)... He wants a civilian "army"... Sounds kinda Hitler youthish to me. He wants to reinstitute FDR's socialist programs. SCARRY...

Just think, if McCain did somehow win.... There would be riots and race wars galore. Either way, I think we all have lost this election.... BRING BACK THE WHIG PARTY!!! I'm just going to live with my head in the sand for the next 4 years. I concede to you..... "Barack the God" will lead us to Mount Olympus and we shall all have everything we want, without raising taxes. Sounds good to me. LONG live the GOD BARACK!

Damn Sista... (Maybe I should start brushing-up on my "jive") The official English now! He is not half black, he's HALF WHITE!!

Now your vote won't count, you didn't do it on the right day. I voted early too.
As for the bail-out, It should have NEVER happened! Barney Frank should be sent to prison, (and speech therapy).

How many times did ACORN sign your name up for voting? Did you see Mickey Mouse or Tony Romo in line?? Or that guy who lives on that park bench in Montrose??

Ah, yes the "Community Chest", or "Pool" as you refer too. The pool that we all pile our money into and then hand out to EVERYONE equally, even non-American citizens and people who hate to pay for things with "their" money. I am feeling the love for Barack already... Even if he wasn't born in the USA!! Look what he has done to his brother in Africa and his Aunt.... He REALLY spreads the LOVE and his money!!!

    Yo... What-up Sista???
I might kill myself tomorrow... So, I wanted to say goodbye before I am forced to live under a Marxist regime. Maybe I'll just cling to my guns and religion.... Not sure?? I'm sure you will be happy tomorrow when your guy wins and we must spread the wealth to those who choose not to work for their homes they "bought" without a single penny down. Ugh... Oh, by the way... I did hear that Democrats vote on Nov. 5th and the Republicans vote on the 4th. So.... Pass it along!

    Hi Brandy,

How are you? I hope all is well with you. So you were an English teacher? Wow. Well, I’ll try and not hold that against you. I was a student in an English class once; I had a terrible time. I always thought English teachers had a small mind because they could only think of one way to spell a word. But that’s all water under the bridge now.

I see you’ve only marked one book as your favorite, George Orwell’s ‘1984.’ I read that some time ago, and it scared the hell out of me; I never trusted anything the government said after that. Still don’t. I don’t remember too much about the story now, but everytime I read Time or Newsweek I think ‘What a bunch of BS they are trying to pull over me now.’ Probably not a healthy attitude to have, but that’s what comes with reading stuff like ‘1984.’

I see you gave high marks to ‘Kite Runner.’ I saw the movie and liked it a lot. Did you see the film? Would you recommend the book to someone who has seen and liked the film? Normally, a film leaves out a lot of the book; was that true in this case?

Another book you give high marks to is ‘Sometimes a Great Notion.’ I’ve always intended to read that. I read ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ and enjoyed it very much. And I’ve heard so much about how eccentric Ken Kesey was, that I’d like to read some more of him, but I just never got around to it.

What else. I see you’ve given high ratings to ‘Grapes of Wrath.’ Very good book. I didn’t give it as high a rating as you did, but it was a good read, and there were some powerful ideas there. There is one chapter there that stood out some much that I have it on my computer. I’m Mexican-American from California and this has always moved me:

    The Grapes of Wrath

    Chapter Nineteen

Once California belonged to Mexico and its land to Mexicans; and a horde of tattered feverish Americans poured in. And such was their hunger for land that they took the land—stole Sutter’s land, Guerrero’s land, took the grants and broke them up and growled and quarreled over them, those frantic hungry men; and they guarded with guns the land they had stolen. They put up houses and barns, they turned the earth and planted crops. And these things were possessions, and possession was ownership.
The Mexicans were weak and fed. They could not resist, because they wanted nothing in the world as frantically as the Americans wanted land.
Then, with time, the squatters were no longer squatters, but owners; and their children grew up and had children on the land. And the hunger was gone from them, the feral hunger, the gnawing, tearing hunger for land, for water and earth and the good sky over it, for the green thrusting grass, for the swelling roots. They had these things so completely that they did not know about them any more. They had no more the stomach-tearing lust for a rich acre and a shining blade to plow it, for seed and a windmill beating its wings in the air. These things were lost to them, and crops were reckoned in dollars, and land was valued by principal plus interest, and crops were bought and sold before they were planted. Then crop failure, drought, and flood were no longer little deaths within life, but simple losses of money. And all their love was thinned with money, and all their fierceness dribbled away in interest until they were no longer farmers at all, but little shopkeepers of crops, little manufactures who must sell before they can make. Then those farmers who were not good shopkeepers lost their land to good shopkeepers. No matter how clever, how loving a man might be with earth and growing things, he could not survive if he were not also a good shopkeeper. And as time went on, the business men had the farms, and the farms grew larger, but there were fewer of them.

Things have not changed much. I’ll close now. Drop me a line when you get a chance.

    Cheers

    Ray

    Hello Brandy C,

I’m new here, and I was just wandering around, and I came across your comments on the ‘DaVinci Code,’ and I liked them. So I thought I’d check out your books to see what we have in common. I read your comments about ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ and I smiled because again I agree with you. I too am a late starter, poisoned by high-school teachers who insisted I read stuff like ‘Silias Marner’ or ‘Babbitt,’ or other equally lame books. Give me ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ anytime over that stuff we were supposed to read. Anyway, I liked your comments and I invite you to come visit my shelf and see what I’ve read, what I’ve liked and what I’ve disliked, and then drop me a note.
    Cheers Ray

I try to be diversified in my selections. In the past students have somewhat enjoyed The Wife of Bath Prologue and Tale from Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, and Things Fall Apart. I've also had students enjoy small film as lit units or parallels to brit lit.

They are the most FUN to read. She is a little ditzy, but lovable and her friends are a hoot. And her boyfriends are VERY sexy. But start in the beginning, not that it is totally a must, but a few have a couple of carry over characters. I am on the 14th in the series. I read all the others last year. So now it seems for ever for a new one to come out.

I have really enjoyed Spring Branch--I have been here for 2 years. I'm fairly new to teaching though, and did not have the greatest experience at my previous school. I feel comfortable sending my daughter to my school, so I'll be staying for the next few years.

You should have a statue for two reasons--teaching high school and teaching at Lamar!

My daughter has a great green room too, but not quite that green. She asks me daily to go to the library, so at least we get some variety in our daily routine!

I teach in Spring Branch. I'm actually reading quite a bit of "Dora" right now. I did read Goodnight Moon today though, and noticed that one of the pictures on the wall is from The Runaway Bunny--anything to keep myself awake!
