The book that you are reading now is an awesome one (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

Entertaining, educational, mysterious, proof behind legend, and mesmerizing all that the same time: what better time could one have then to escape to the realm of the mind for a while?
I am new to Shelfari and am open to followers. I have recently published the first in the series of four. The Series is entitled "The Centurion of Time" and it is about the legend behind the cursed soldier that speared Christ. It is full of history, myth, religion, war, and metaphor. The main character finds tragedy and must go on a journey through the eons of the earths to find confidence, peace, and regain his own soul. It is available on amazon of course, it will be on ebook soon, and is now at publishamerica.com at a significantly lower price than at amazon.

Well, now's a good time to talk about the killer weather 'cause we're in it too. June 1st, 3 tornados hit massachusetts, and we don't get tornados. One of them hit the town in which I live. The closest it came to me was a mile & a half. I never knew it hit here at the time as it wasn't raining in my neighborhood and there wasn't a breath of wind. But, oh the damage it did. Wow. I was shocked when I saw it. (And still, it's nothing like what happened in the midwest)
Went to the Cape for the 4th for a few days. I grew up there and still have many relatives there who have parties, so I go every year and spend time with them. I have great relatives and a lot of them. That's where the cool weather lives.
It's also cool in the Berkshires (western Mass) where I lived for a while. Just returned from a 5 day visit with friends to 100% weather, so I'm hold up in my air conditioned house and staying here even though one of my daughters just got ahold of me and invited me to go to Montreal with them for the weekend. (And still, I've been reading)

hey I just joined the favorite read aloud books for kids and it doesn't seem active so I'm just writing a few members to see if they have recommendations for me. my son is only 2 but there has to be books out there that are more than silly rhymes and non-sense stories. We're hoping for Christ-oriented stories and/or something he will learn to sit for longer than 3 minutes. if you have no suggestions, thanks for reading this anyway!

I noticed you are in Charleston so thought you might be interested in my most recent read -- The Trust by Sean Keefer. The author is also from Charleston and this is his first novel. A description (from Amazon) is below:

To attorney Noah Parks, the probate of a will should be a simple task. But the Last Will and Testament of Leonardo Xavier Cross is anything but simple. Though Parks has never heard of Cross, he learns that the Will directs that he provide the legal representation for the estate and as part of his fee he receive the contents of a safety deposit box – a safety deposit box no one knew existed. Intrigued, Parks undertakes the task but after the body count begins to rise the otherwise basic task of probating the will becomes more complicated as each day passes. Despite all of Parks’ skills, the answers he seeks remain elusive and force him to delve deeper into the shocking and deceptive Cross’ family history which sets the stage for an explosive finale that Parks can only hope to survive. Set in Charleston, South Carolina, The Trust is the debut novel from Sean Keefer. Blending elements of traditional southern literary fiction, suspense and mystery; you won’t be satisfied until the final page is turned.

Wow, it's been two weeks since I wrote to you. We had a huge snowstorm a couple of days ago, I got 22 inches on top of the 6" I already had. I knew it was coming so I went to the grocery store to pick up supplies and broke down and bought a book. (As if I don't already have a lot of unread books.) I bought "The White Queen". I have read two of her books and have two more that I haven't read yet. So, of course I needed a third. HA... From what I could see, your weather hasn't been that good either.
I read the three Stieg Larsson books and since I belong to Netflix I ordered the first two films. Just saw the second one during the snowstorm. Now waiting for the 3rd and last of the trilogy.
I haven't looked for "The Tower to the Sun" yet, but I still intend to, especially since your comments about the reviews have piqued my curiosity. I let my kids read anything they wanted to, also.
Hope your weather wasn't toooo bad! I've been thinking you got ice.

Hi Hope, I just discovered your recommendation of "Tower to the Sun", so I'm going to look for it. Also, two corrections of what I've previously written. "Murder on the Orient Express" was not one of my favorites. Scratch that and add in "Murder at the Vicarage". and change "4:15 from Paddington" to 4:50... My memory isn't what it used to be. Happy New Year!

Good afternoon, Hope. I forced myself to stay off the computer yesterday. I can be addicted sometimes, which is very bad for me. I'm on facebook with family and friends, too, and that's the worst. I didn't get a blizzard that was promised, but the coast did. I'm 60-70 miles inland so only got 7 -8 inches. I'm grateful, let me tell you. This morning I was on facebook laughing myself silly over some things that were posted. (reposted one of them, couldn't help myself)
I added several books to my shelves this morning. Birds and gardening books. I didn't initially intend to, but saw similar books on other's shelves so said, "What the heck, I've read them and used them frequently." So on my shelf they went!
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd isn't one of my favorites although I liked it a lot. That's the one where the narrator is guilty if memory serves me correctly. (Haven't read it in over 30 years.) I thought that was cheating. In those days, I was pretty good at guessing the guilty one. I have 4 favorites. "A murder is announced", "The Moving Finger", "4:15 from Paddington" and "Murder on the Orient Express" (I think, they're not in front of me.) I read "Great Expectations" in high school, but haven't added it yet. I'm not familiar with "The Red Tent", but I'm going to look for it, now.
BTW, I had a feeling you were close to my age just by some of the books on your shelves that we have in common. I hope you don't mind my mentioning that, but I'm in my 60s too. (which you might have guessed.)
And ramble on all you want. It's a treat.

Hi Hope! So nice to hear from you. I have been a member since DEC 2008 but like you I am still learning. I'm sorry I can't answer your questions. Ask one of the Shelfari librarians, perhaps they have an answer. They also have the Shelfari Group with FAQ but I have found that to be a tedious search and patience isn't one of my best virtures. We are both southerners and grandmothers! I am going to browse your shelves for books :)

Wishing you and your family a Happy, healthy and blessed 2011!

Good morning Hope, Well, I didn't get 2 feet of snow as predicted, only 6 inches which blew from here to kingdom come and back piling up drifts. A nice little gnome came by and shoveled me out and saved me from a heart attack, let me tell you!!
I've been adding more books to my shelf and now we have 162 books in common. Some of them are from a book club To which I belonged (30 years or more, ago). Some are school books, but, hey, I've read them. I've only gotten as far as Ms. Christie on you shelves (as you have so many), but discovered many I have but forgot about as 2 years ago I finally boxed my collection up and stored them 'cause I needed the room for more books! I'm a book hoarder (and actually belong to that group). Loved when you wrote, "hand-held, page-turning, paper-paged book". It made me chuckle.

Hi Hope, yes I did get your response, thank you. I couldn't believe that I'd found someone who'd read so MANY of the same books as I have. What a treat. I noticed that you live in S. Carolina and as I've been watching the tv this morning, tracking the approaching blizzard, I wondered if you were near it as it comes up the coast. Looking foreward to sharing opinions of our mutual interests in books.

Hi Hope. Thank you for the friendship request. I'm not sure when I'll get around to reading The Agony and the Ecstasy, but I'll definitely let you know what I think when I do. It seems to be the type of book you really need to devote your time to, and I have so many group reads I need to concentrate on at the moment that I just can't give it the attention it deserves. Maybe I'll try it this summer, or next autumn.
