High Spot

I'm a guitar student who's read many books, in relentless but sometimes misguided pursuit of spiritual knowledge. I used to be a saxophonist who couldn't improvise and my current teacher taught me how to in about 20 minutes. Breaking new ground is always a huge buzz. Reading? Louis XIV said, "I see no point in reading." But perhaps Adi... more »

Are the Esbion Svenson Trio big over there? They are the only contemporary Jazz unit that really float my son and my boats these days.(Is that proper English?)

Hey there -- yeah, I read War in an Irish Town by McCann ages ago -- I was sure I had it on one of my shelves but couldn't find it when I started posting stuff to Shelfari -- I must have lost it in one of my handful of moves over the years. I've read quite a bit of Peter Taylor, but haven't come across the one by Fitzpatrick. Cheers!

What a trancendent and sumptuous list of books. Many are old friends of mine. My son is a guitar teacher but I'm still baffled by what 'bebop' is though I love the sounds of Bird.

Hi there, thanks for your note and for adding me as a friend. =)
If I want to recommend a book... well, that's not easy. I have many favorites. But to name a couple of my all time faves that I recommend to everyone, I would say the entire "Dune" series by Herbert are a must read, as well as anything that Asimov ever wrote. =) Thanks for your recommendation by the way, I'm definitely going to check it out.
