Jennifer

I didn't start out as a lover of books. I was too much of a tomboy, always too busy to come in and read a book. It wasn't until I worked in a quaint little bookshop called "The Bookworm," with Rita, an older lady from England, who devoured books and encouraged me, that I became a convert. I've been a constant reader ever since with an endless...more »

She thinks she can distract us w/ these toys while she keeps the real ones all for herself! Ha!! One of these days, we'll figure out the perfect strategy & rescue those hunks.

Actually, my husband & I lived in the Caribbean for a few years & are now part owners of a company there. We both fly back & forth, although I haven't been in a while due to concerns w/ our aged mothers. He's been discussing a new job w/ a friend of a friend for months now & finally flew to Australia to discuss the particulars last week. For months, we've had a truce to not fight about this new prospect until we got more info. He knew I did NOT want to move clear across the world; the Caribbean was bad enough even though we had good times & I'm glad we did it. I just think we're too old to be doing it again because life as an ex-pat is not easy; we like being settled in this house that we built & barely lived in for years; & it's sad when a grandchild doesn't recognize his grandpa (As happened to us!). Fortunately, hubby has finally come to these conclusions...or at least for now...=)

    Good gravy, holy moley!!!

I decided I haven't heard from you in awhile & need to touch base & start to move on over to your homepage. But I want something to drink first, go away, come back, & here you are!!

How very Nora of you!!! ;p

I have enjoyed The Chesapeake Saga so much!!! My husband was out of the country this past week, & I've been on pins & needles, waiting to see what would happen. Because of the cost, he agreed not to call & all I had to go on were 2 emails that said: "I'm jet lagged. I'm tired." In between bouts of emotional eating (everything junky in sight w/ numerous trips to the grocery store for more goodies), I've been reading these books & just loving them!! (I won't bore you w/ the details but he was interviewing for a job & I do NOT want to move overseas again & so we've been "discussing" this proposed move for months now. W/ me, unhappy; him, excited. )

I haven't read The Blood Brothers or The Hollow yet, but will. I might wait until the last one comes out - Nov., I think? So then I could just read all at once & have good closure. =) (Gawd, I am such a nerd, aren't i??!)

I loved The Kitchen God's Wife!!!

Glad to hear from you, you brilliant mind, you!!!

lol, I try and wait for the paperbacks, mostly because I've got all the others in pb, I came to the series late, and I like to keep them all together...but it's a battle every time...I just looked it up at FantasticFiction.com, ever been there? it's a great way to keep up w/ series and other favorite writers, lets you know when new stuff is coming out...anyway, Salvation in Death is out in hardback in nov, then the pb is out in may 2009, and Promises in Death is out in hb in feb 2009, no date for the pb yet...and there are two novellas out now, Ritual in Death you can find in the Suite 66 collection, and Eternity in Death you can find in the Dead of Night collection...the little books fill in gaps in the series...

right now I'm on the last of the Saga, I just read the part about 'Hurricane Anna' when Seth invited Dru home for dinner...that whole scene still makes me howl...

oooh, accents, that sounds great, I wish I could indulge but cant, I lost my hearing when I was about 23 and missed out on the joy of audio books, they were just starting to be big back then...are you just starting w/ the Outlander series? or are you indulging in audio while waiting the eons it takes Gabaldon to write her books? lord, she is slow...we still have another 16 months before book 7 comes out, four damn years every time, it can make you crazy...

lol, no actually, I'm familiar w/ the area, a friend's sister had married and moved to Annandale so we did some driving round there, though she long since moved when I got back from a five year stint in CA, so it's been a while...

oh yes, indeed, we do have the title for number three...The Pagan Stone...and it comes out in november...her new j.d. robb came out in pb this month, too...Strangers in Death, which I swallowed whole the other night...you're gonna love The Hollow, it's even better than Blood Brothers and now I want a Fox of my very own...

(grins) glad you're enjoying your present...you know alicia's gonna read the Chesapeake Bay Saga soon, so I'll probably be sending her a Cameron doll eventually...I just reread it myself...I forgot how adorable he was...

Hi Jennifer! I'm so sorry you weren't listed on the final tally -- I don't look at anyone's personal log of what they've read, so that may be why I missed you. All I ever look at is the discussion I start that's labeled with the Brunch title. In any event, that's not important... what IS important is to get you included, and of course that's got to be done. I will add any stats you've got and get you on the finished list, and I'm so glad you brought this to my attention. Thank you for participating at RIT and supporting the challenges. :) Read On! Ma

I totally agree with your commentaries so far--I'm about 1/2 way through--and loving the story! Husband #2--what a horrid and abusive person. I can't imagine dealing with a lecher and a mooch, and then realizing that you are pregnant and just trying to stick it out for so long. I wonder if she they were away from each other for such long stretches of time, that it just became something she "got use to"...not realizing that it was not status quo. I also think divorce carried a much different stigma than it does today, especially as she was Catholic...perhaps she was embarassed and just figured she should make the best of it...anyway--I'm like you--I wouldn't have stayed--especially not with the hitting and all of the verbal and financial abuse.

John Ford was interesting to me...we love his movies and we love John Wayne here at home and I was quite surprised to hear what a kook he was. My husband was not surprised though, I guess he had already done quite a bit of reading on him and was aware of that already.

I also thought that the way Walt Disney behaved was abhorrent--but then I know that Disney as a corporation is all about power, money and greed and the standard for that was obviously set early on. Yes, there are good things about Disney, but when you are talking business, they are ruthless. It is my understanding that their lawyers are like a pack of rabid hounds.

The other thing that was interesting was the way Hollywood actually worked--fascinating, cold, calculating and cruel. It seemed to have a life of its own, a sentience if you will, that chewed people up and spit them out in any variety of ways. I'm sure it is still like this today. There is a book called "Star Machine" that a friend of mine told me about that I have been thinking of reading, that goes into the machine of early Hollywood. After reading this book, it might be a good follow-up.

Well, I should have the book finished in the next day or so--sorry I didn't get it done sooner, I'm a pretty quick reader, but it has been a very busy working-in-the-yard and run around week! LOl

Have a great day and we'll chat again soon!!

What a fascinating woman (Maureen O'Hara)--I started reading over the weekend and I am fascinated by her gumption and her discipline! Also, I was very surprised by her homelife--how ordered and structured and how she recalled it with such affection. I thought the situation she got herself into with her first marriage was ridiculous! What a mistake--I felt like she longed to be a full-fledged adult, and mature--but like most 18 year olds, thought she knew a lot more about life than she really did.

Also--I picked up the Sugar Queen yesterday! Woo hoo! Gotta get dinner on for the fam--we'll chat again soon! Have a good evening! HPG

That O'Hara book sounds interesting. I have a photo of my grandmother in the 1940s and she looks the spitting image of her (well without the red hair).
Summer to me always means watching The Parent Trap.

Hey there! We are doing well, but everytime we dry out, we get more rain. It poured here last night and our road was flooded again.
We took advantage of the nice weather today to grill out and I am curled up reading. Started reading The Kite Runner and am really enjoying that.

I have not read any of this series yet. I was missing the first one for some time and set the others aside. I found the first recently. She has also written a new one that came out this year.

I am reading for Tag It to the Max, part of the Play Book Tag group. I am reading The Amber Room, and will be starting the Jasper Fforde The Eyre Affair next, along with the poetry and non-fiction I always have going. I am also listeing to Evanovich's Hard Eight again, as a talking book in the car.

Thanks for the note. Happy reading.

That sounds fantastic! I will start reading "Tis Herself" today, and pull out my "Garden Spells" to refresh so I have it handy. I didn't know that her sequel "Sugar Queen" was out--I really liked the author's style, so I think I will pick that one up too! I'm really looking forward to our discussions! Have a great Friday! Hey Jennifer! Hope you're surviving in this heat! I won't even ask if it's hot in NJ since I know the answer already. =D

I'll look up these books. They sound cute & definitely fun. Thanks for thinking of me! I just finished 'The Golden Compass' by Philip Pullman & loved it! I have to order the next 2 in the trilogy so I can find out what happens.

Have a great weekend! We leave for vacation on Sat.! Woo hoo!!
