Big Stone Gap was a bit too cutesie. My mother loves all of her books but I need a little more substance. Try Ambulance Girl or Glass Castle; both memoirs. Ambulance Girl take place in CT not far from Thomaston. It's a funny and poinant all at the same time. The Glass Castle is remarkable! Sometime fact is stranger than fiction!
